Participant

AN – can i ask you do you walk into a car dealer and offer the MSRP for a car? if not, then you are surely a snob! or better yet, you can’t afford it!
Here’s a perfect analogy for your current predicament.
You made decent money. Probably not filthy rich, but pretty good. Probably better than most of the peers you know. So you walk into a Porsche dealership and think you have $80k to spend on a car, and that the Porsche GT4 has an MSRP of $80k and $72k invoice, and that you should be able to haggle with the dealership to get a price around $74k, because that would be fair price you would pay and for the dealer to make a profit.
But then, you go into the dealer, and you see that not only is the GT4 priced at MSRP, it’s priced $25k above asking, and not a single salesman will entertain your offer and not even give you a time or day.
You wonder why? You think that with the MSRP at $80k and the $25k markup, that would put the car into a $105k territory, which is the same price as say a 2017 911s, which in your mind is better car. But for whatever the reason, the dealership is just going to hold onto the GT4 waiting for some buying to pay $25k above MSRP or close to that.
You get pissed off and go home, and post on a car blog, “can someone recommend for $80k, a car that equivalent to a Porsche GT4″….
Some people tell you that first of all you wont be able to get a GT4 at $80k, that the current market price is $105k… You say that’s shitty, that for that price, that car is shit, and for the same price you can get a 911s. Then people suggest, well then why don’t you spend the money and get a 911s. Then you say, well, I don’t want to spend that much for a car. Give me something comparable…
Then someone tells you for $80k, you can buy an Corvette z06. You say, that’s a piece of shit. I won’t be caught dead in an american car. Ok, then someone says, how about an M3…Then you say, the maintenance costs on that piece of shit is too much. Then you have a few people that tell you you really should just buy a toyota camry because there’s no difference between a camry or porsche. You scoff and say, that’s insulting…Toyota camry is for peasants and ghetto people. Other people chuckle because while there’s nothing wrong with a Toyota camry, that advice came from people who aren’t really into cars and only make recommendations just for the sake of making recommendations.
And then someone suggests, well if you really want the GT4, the prevailing price is $25k over MSRP. Because it’s a limited production car where there is a short supply, there’s plenty of demand for it, and even if the dealer is asking well above MSRP, people are buying them…With cash….And if you really really want the GT4, that’s the price you’ll need to pay to get it. And if you are already willing to spend $80k for a car, what’s an additional $25k if you really can afford the GT4 and if you really want it. The person goes on to explain..You can wait and rent/lease a normal Caymen R that is pretty close to a GT4, and you can even buy a Caymen R for less than MSRP…And it’s pretty close to a GT4…But then you insist, that the Cayman R is not good enough, and that you should be able to buy the GT4 at MRSP close to what you would pay for a fully loaded Caymen R and that any other brand of car is just shit. You feel you are entitled not to pay MSRP for the GT-4 even though current market conditions dictate that’s not realistic. The person then suggests can wait to see if Porsche releases more inventory of the GT4 to see if that helps, but you might be waiting a long time, if they ever do. And even so, demand for the GT4 will still outstrip supply for the GT4, so you might not get your discount and now be stuck paying for the extra lease waiting…
Then you go ask if ISIS members drive Mercedes, because if they do, you’re going to cross the C63 AMG off the list.
And meanwhile, somewhere along the line some guy that has a Nissan comes along and says, considering you will only settle for a porsche, aren’t you’re just being an overly entitled person and are you sure you can afford drive a GT4? To which you snap back, well I doubt you can too. To which that person says, but I’m not the one trying to buy a GT4 in the current market conditions, you are.
Now substitute the GT4 for a house in Carmel Valley, substitute 911s for La Jolla, subsitute Corvette z06 for Mira Mesa, Carlsbad for the BMW M3, and substitute the Toyota Camry for El Cajon or Chula Vista…..The c63 AMG for a house near the islamic center. And that’s the predicament you are in.
Brilliant.
If you like bicycles, anyone can afford the best.

Participant

All this Asian talk got me thinking….
Where does this leave White folks? Asians and Jews outdo them academically and Latinos out do them labor wise. If you’re compensating hard work, the White folks are kinda up the creek in a competitive world.Flu, you should buy near all the top universities because as the Asian population grows, they will fan out across the land for educational opportunities. I’m thinking an apartment building by the university of Michigan.
Come on.. Any driven white person can compete just fine. There’s plenty of them. Last time I checked, the majority of the CEOs and entrepreneurs in this country are still caucasian. It’s all good. And when did we start splitting hairs and calling Jewish non-whites? I’m confused.
I’d like to get to the point in society that we get rid of this sort of “social injustice” because you are of race X or you have an unfair advantage because you are race Y, with maybe a few exceptions here and there in the extreme cases… Life isn’t fair. Deal with it.
I’m Jewish and I don’t consider myself white. I’m completely another weird thing.

Regulations happen too. It’s certainly constitutional not to sell guns in vending machines.
Drugs are regulated because people think they’re dangerous….
