Rt.66
ParticipantI’ve always had good experiences, even in the dark years US cars were not the absolute toilets most make them out to be, as evidenced by the Mustang II. Many people forget that ALL cars were not as good in the 80s as they are now. How many 1980s vintage Japanes cars do you see on the road?
I have found that lots of folks, once they choose the dark side and jump over to supporting foriegn brands, they embark on a quest to justify thier decision. One way they attempt to do that is to make absurd over-statements about problems with US cars. As if in some fantasy world they have experienced driving around weaving through a chicane of broken down American cars, LOL.
All cars can break, they are made up of thousands of man-made moving parts. Some models are better than others. Car complaint forums are chock full of people with unhappy experiences with Japanese and Korean cars. Toyota, Honda and Kia mechanics are not wanting for work, they stay plenty busy.

ParticipantI hear you on the Mustang. I had a friend who had a Mustang II back in the day and he never checked the coolant. In the hot desert heat it eventually got so low the engine actually locked completely up and quit. After a few hours he added water and the car started again and ran for years LOL!

ParticipantBuy an American car:
Upside= $30,000.00 stays in the US and tons of American jobs are helped.Downside= If you believe the BS about lower quality then maybe, MAYBE you may have to take time and visit the dealer one or two more times for a warranty repair over a Honda or whatever.
Buy a can of American mandarines:
Upside= $2.34 stays in The US. You get a warm fuzzy feeling from doing your part.Downside= None. Everyone sees the value of keeping our dollars here so they can circulate and not add to our deficit when you are talking about $2.34.
Start talking about purchases that really make a huge differecne and most Americans revert to shortsighted, self-centered thinking.
The actual real truth is American cars are crazy, crazy reliable. Too bad so many will still gladly send the $$ from the second largest purchase of thier lives to Japan or Korea over and over in the tiny hopes of gaining a tiny advantage at such an extreem cost to the country and eventually to themselves as well.
