ParticipantHe’s been right on this whole housing/sub prime thing from the start. Wayyyyyyy out in front of it. There are tons of You tube videos out there showing him on CNBC and FOX as the underdog and taking some real abuse. He stood his ground. Those others are all eating crow. He’s earned my respect.

ParticipantNo, I am not naive and I am not kidding, either. Just had a few homeowners call in to KNX 1070 on Tuesday to bitch about the FD just got up and left when the fire approached their homes. Both homes totally destroyed and then after it was gone they came back and started milling around. NBC Sandiego interviewed a guy in Rancho Santa Fe who refused the mandatory evacuation, joined with a neighbor and between them and the pump they put in a pool and a firehose defended their two homes and beat the fire. Similar story in Running Springs. It’s documented. I’ve noticed it and so have many others I’ve talked to because I thought I was nuts, initially. Not saying its the majority. All I’m saying is next time take a look around when it’s on TV and keep an open mind. The FD may need to take some courses in public perception. It may not be what it looks like but sometimes it looks like horseshit. If there is a camera crew nearby, pick up a hose, a shovel, dont just be standing around bullshitting like those 6 guys in Malibu on Sunday when that Castle burned down.

ParticipantAm I the only one who has noticed of late that many firemen stand around doing nothing while houses catch on fire? I live up here in OC and have been watching the local OC and LA county fires and man it is quite evident from the helicopter tV shots. 5 or 6 standing around while structures burn. I’m starting to question this G0d-like stature we give them. Sure I know many are hard working and put themselves in harms way, but this crap I’m seeing on TV is bad publicity. Some guy on the radio today who lost his place in the Irvine/Santiago fire just ripped the Fire depts collective ass for not making any effort to save his place. He said they just up and left. After it burned to the ground they came back and were everywhere. I’m beginning to wonder if the FD is getting a little lazy depending too much on air power to fight these things. Anyone else noticing this? How bout down in SD county?

ParticipantIt is significant. It was brought down by their mortgage exposure. The weak fall first. Many more will come. Did you folks not see what happened in England with Northern ROck recently!?!?! What about the two banks in Germany that had to be rescued. Big deals all. Don’t sweep this under the rug/

ParticipantIt really is serious and the way they announced after the market closed and on a Friday nite to avoid media exposure is just unbelieveable. Of course no one on this site cares. If it isnt in Chula Vista or Poway, don’t waste your time!
