Duuuude, just reread that article you linked to — that was a pretty funny one. The decline in humor isn’t an issue of licensing, though… I think it’s two things. One is that at some point I recognized that I was starting to be taken seriously as an analyst, and so I eased back on the mockery/silliness throttle a bit to ease that transition. This sounds all sell-out-y now, but it was so brutal how the RE bears were completely ignored back then… I wanted to get the word out, and I didn’t want to undermine it by screwing around too much. (Not to mention that I started running into some of the people I had been making fun of!)

The second reason, more in effect now, is just the circumstance. Back then people were acting so outrageously stupid, but were doing so with this chest-thumping arrogance… they were just teeing up the mockery. Now, many of those same people are foreclosed upon, unemployed, etc… that’s somewhat less funny.

Probably more of an analysis than you were looking for. 🙂

One clarification, I never posted my stuff on craigslist. This one guy would always post my stuff over on CL, and it always led to lots of hate-posts about me (most of which seemed, to my annoyance, to assume that I was the one posting my stuff over at CL).

Subject: Can you stop posting this garbage?

You know, I see your articles all over the place on CL. Can you stop?

If people want to hear about the Real Estate Bubble bursting let them seek you out.

I am tired of clicking on innocent looking ads and reading your garbage.

I had to explain to this jerk that seeing as how I had my own website, I didn’t really feel the need to post over on CL so that a bunch of vicious and ignorant permabulls could lay into me on a daily basis.

Actually come to think of it I did post to CL just once. I never really followed what was going on there, but one time someone forwarded me a post written by some permabull claiming that I was bitter because I’d never owned a home. This was untrue, I’d owned two different homes in the past, so I felt the need to set the record straight.

I posted to let him know he was an uninformed idiot, and the whole lot of them jumped on me and said I (the poster) was lying about being “piggington”. So after incorrectly accusing me of posting my own stuff for ages, the one time I did post, they said it wasn’t me. And that was the last time I bothered to post there…
