ParticipantBashing illegals is like bashing welfare recipients. Or like bashing the Fire Chief that has a good pension and other government workers. Not saying it is right or wrong, BUT, this is small potatoes and takes a very little slice of the pie. The biggest chunk of money is spent on Defense. Yeah, and many of us make our bread and butter in this City because of Defense spending, so perhaps we do not wish to look at this matter. OH, and I am not talking about spending on our sailors, those guys make a pittance unfortunately.

ParticipantThat is horrible what happenned to those tenants. I cannot even imagine that.
Back in the day, Vegas was great….loved to stay downtown–before they put up that mall thing playing country music and a flashing light show. You could play craps for $2 and if times were tough, there was always the $1 black jack tables at Union Square. Not to mention penny slots, for REALLY a penny! Went to a casino in Palm Desert last weekend, could hardly figure out what was what on those penny slots…which added up to about 50 cents a pull/button push. At least your hands don’t get dirty anymore.
Binions had not gone bust in those days, and you could get free pics taken in front of the million dollar horseshoe….the days before digital…had to come back the next day to get the photos.
Not sure what it takes to get comps these days….but back in late 80’s/early 90’s comps at the Fremont were flowing freely.
Aaaah, I miss the old Vegas (or miss my youth maybe!).

Brian I would definitely agree with that.
As a side note I also believe that more physical activity would improve academic achievement dramatically. It is bad enough that pretty much any normal 7 year old boy is classified as ADD cuz he cannot sit still. I think that in most cases this is simply a boy being a boy. They need to be running around. Tire them out and you find they are a hell of alot more attentive. Adding more physical activity and maybe scaling back a bit on the academics may serve to INCREASE attentiveness and the quality of what the kids learn. Just my two cents. I do like the military style idea though. Lots of physical activity and more of a focus on respect, discipline, and other intangibles that will accelerate learning in the future. [/quote]
I have 2 teacher friends, married couple. They have both been teaching for SD Unified for 10+ years. Their son was quite active, and since a child he has been enrolled in private school, because they felt he would kicked out of public school due to the low tolerance for activity. The child is now 10 years old, and does extremely well academically, as he is very bright, but still an active boy.
