ParticipantI don’t know why so many people keep referring to the concept of “affirmative action” here. That has nothing to do with it. The guy is well educated, has shown pretty good judgement regarding the war, and is one of the best political speakers out there. Given the current environment, I would say timing was on his side too. It seems like the American people are so sick of the current regime, that they are willing to look at some fresh new person, even if they are underqualified. No one stepped aside or GAVE it to him because he was part black. He fought a long hard primary and beat the competition. The people came out in record numbers to vote & he is the person with the most votes. That is not affirmative action, that is democracy.
btw, I have not voted for the guy & there is a good chance I will not vote for him in the general, but I think it’s lame to keep dismissing him like that.
Palin vs Obama in experience really seems like a wash. A couple years as the governor of a state w/ <700k people does not make her any more qualified for president.

ParticipantBeing “Captain Literal”, I have to point out the obvioius… Don’t cities just sort of materialize/evolve on their own? We don’t technically “put” a city anywhere, except maybe when we have to rebuild a city. It will be fun to dump a bunch more $$ into re-“put”ting New Orleans back in the center of Hurricane alley yet another time.

I just hope naked pictures of her don’t show up on the internet.John[/quote]
Mr Ficquette, you are too funny. Could it be possible that naked photos would gather more votes?
Can anyone really say how important executive or foreign policy experience is for a person to perform the duties of president?
I remember reading a passage in one of the Kennedy biographies about his first days in the whitehouse. It sounded like nothing short of chaos as this new young inexperienced group took over the executive branch, but didn’t Kennedy eventually get the hang of it? Now we hear a lot of comments about how inexperienced Lincoln was, and I think history shows he did a fair job.
Which experience is better?
1)several years on a small town council, small town mayor, then a few years governor of a state w/ a population smaller than most US cities.or
2)several years in a state senate and a couple years as US Senator.
They seem about even to me. Oh yeah, each ticket also has an old dude w/decades of senate experience too.
I know, I know… the rookie has a different position on each party’s ticket, but the GOP has a 72 year old, cancer recovering guy on the top.
