RenParticipant
Again, your contention is flat out wrong. You’re making a blanket statement about every user on this forum, but we know differently, so why bother? “Not one valid post”? The whole point of your thread is invalid.
RenParticipantAlex, I’ve been reading this forum from the start. Users here were right to poke holes in the misinformation being printed in the UT back then, and contrary to your statement, the attitude to current UT stories is anything but enthusiastic. More like “they’ve finally pulled their collective heads out of their asses.” Their version of the market now more closely matches reality. I’m certainly not going to praise them for what they should have been doing all along.

October 2, 2007 at 9:23 AM in reply to: Are you prepared to be ruled by a homeowners association? #86705RenParticipant“HOA boards are usually composed of the neighborhood busybodies who have nothing better to do.”
Exactly. In a way it’s similar to police officers – a certain personality type is a prerequisite, and that type is frequently unpleasant. In the case of the HOA, it’s the type who spends their free time spying on their neighbors.
As for running a business out of your home, our HOA rules state that you’re not allowed to run one in your garage. Of course I ignore this, because it isn’t their garage. It serves as my warehouse and office. The only way you would know anything is happening in there is when the Fedex truck shows up once every two weeks and I open the big door. I get along very well with my neighbors and they haven’t complained, but then I probably don’t live next to a board member.
RenParticipantThanks to everyone for the replies. I’ll look into Rancho Carrillo.
I’m not actually a potential buyer yet. In fact, I was the one who talked my wife out of buying now (not easy with someone in a nesting mode). I’m looking at the fall of 2009 at the earliest. This being a huge decision, I just want to get started now and make sure we know what’s available. I don’t want any regrets after this purchase.
I’m looking at houses in the 800k-1m range, hoping they will be at a more manageable 500-700k in a few years.
