ParticipantIt’s not about affirmation but rather education to masses of people who are not receiving it in the main stream media.
They are always late and have a puppetmaster pulling the strings. We are independent researcher’s and thinkers who have decided to not drink the kool aid….and base financial decisions on historical economic models and cycles not the NAR’s “time to buy” campaigns…..
Either way, we were right….and that feels a hell of a lot better than sitting on 4 houses in new developments and losing sleep every night…..and your wife ready to walk out on you for making dumb emotional decisions with your kids college fund…
Like my Dad always said, sometimes you get the elevator and sometimes you get the shaft…..
People on this site get the elevator…..

The fact that the papers are now accepting the bubble’s existence (and slow burst) cannot be ignored. Most media outlets are structured to make people continue watching/reading their media, which means it tells them what they want to hear. Knowing this, we can analyze the current content of the media to better understand when/where/how people will react down the line.
The UT sucks butt and I’ve never ever in 15 years of SD heard a single person say a positive thing about it. I was in the UT when I first came to SD because I discovered some dead people in Torrey Pines… They completely distorted my interview to sensationalize it and since then I never believe anything I hear on any news. Instead, I ask: why are they saying this? What purpose does it serve?

The media is now in agreement with what we have believed since the beginning. Therefore we agree with the media while formerly we disagreed 🙂 Capisce?

ParticipantI think most Piggs were actually worried about the press misleading people. It pains me to see friends and coworkers buy houses they can’t afford because they know that “real estate only goes up,” “they’re not making any more land,” or “real estate is always a safe investment.”
In the past, it would have been nice for a newspaper to have been a little more forthcoming about the risks of buying overpriced houses. Now that the newspapers are actually acknowledging that purchasing overpriced assets can cause real economic pain, there is hope that some of my friends and coworkers will “get it.”
That is a reason to celebrate.

ParticipantAlex, I’ve been reading this forum from the start. Users here were right to poke holes in the misinformation being printed in the UT back then, and contrary to your statement, the attitude to current UT stories is anything but enthusiastic. More like “they’ve finally pulled their collective heads out of their asses.” Their version of the market now more closely matches reality. I’m certainly not going to praise them for what they should have been doing all along.

ParticipantActually, I’m glad Alex shakes thing up a little. Remember when we used to have to go head to head with the RE trolls? Man, those are fond memories looking back. Now that the mainstream is on our side, the challenge is lessened and some of the fun is gone.
So go ahead, alex, bring on more original thinking. It’s a better forum that way.

ParticipantI wanted to try and compile some data regarding all of AA’s previous posts, but a quick search query comes up empty…
Is it me or wasn’t he a ‘hand-grenade tosser’ (nice, Drew) before February 2007?? Then, somewhere in late spring he became a believer and made less venomous postings….and now this thread?
Fell off the wagon? Stopped taking his medication? Whichever the case may be, piggtonian preaching is (mostly) based on solid data. The UT opinions were just that…’opinions’ that the bill-payers (real estate industry) wanted to see being promoted publicly. So they deserved to be discredited and deemed useless in the face of fundamental, data-driven analysis.
And unlike the fat-assed-jeans-girl who can only hear lies that she’d like to believe are true, our self affirmation is being currently validated every day – and yes, it feels good! Cheers, A.A.

ParticipantAA is most certainly one teeny tiny step above troll. It would be interesting to review his post history to compare the number of times he participated in a thread started by someone else vs. starting his own. On second thought no it wouldn’t be interesting.
Typically the posts range from complete bear to housing bull, so you have to give him credit for representing a wide spectrum of “thought”. It’s all pretty harmless stuff though.

The media is great at exploiting the prevailing sentiment and/or shocking event in an effort to sell more ads and subscription. It has much less to do with reporting accurate news.

ParticipantAlex,
I sometimes think you are two people sharing the same screen name.
Most of the Piggs have consistently held the opinion that this past price spike was both unsustainable and unwarranted, even when the media was busy telling us otherwise. So yeah, we were a bit peeved when these writers and/or their editors and publishers completely ignored the analyses we provided to support our opinions; and yeah, we are somewhat gratified that the media has now come around to our point of view. I think the prevailing sentiment here is “better late than never”.
As far as I can tell virtually all of the Piggs are actively scheming to switch from bear to bull when the market turns; and they’ll do so independent of whatever line the media is running at that time.
This ain’t no place place for sheep.
BTW, any affirmation that’s occurring is demonstrated by what the markets are actually doing, not on the media’s coverage of it.

ParticipantEh.. feed the troll I say
At this point, we agree with the media. Only because things have gotten so bad even an idiot can see what is going on the housing market. The media is just putting out what isn’t even news. They are just feeding on the stress people are feeling on the market because it makes people tune in.
Now.. you’ll see us posting in a few years when the UT is claiming how bad the market is and housing is a lost cause forever. When actually, the market is turning up and the time is to buy.
Until then. I’ll read the UT with a smile and think of you Alex. I guess every time you log on you flip your coin, Bear or Bull.. what am I today? Every time I see that you have created a thread I wonder what kind of crap you are spewing today..

We are better than that.
We can sort this out.
We can open our eyes and see what’s going on.
Deep Breath … and Exhale.
Maybe people do like us. Maybe we are right.
Maybe it’s just coincidence that the media sort of agrees with us some of the time.Maybe this too will pass.
We can do it. I know we can.
We are strong.
We are smart.
We can pull through.
Why ?
Because …

Oh, you know what you are right, we are weak and narrow-minded. I feel so worthless and helpless now.
Our narrow-mindedness and negative thoughts will surely lead us to despair, hopelessness, homelessness, and eventually financial ruin.
We will not be able to see the turnaround because of our myopathy. Oh the pain and horror of having you point that out is more than I can take.
Maybe people won’t like me anymore. Not only will I be penniless and lacking in forethought, but the added burden of being shunned by society is almost too much to bear.

ParticipantAgain, your contention is flat out wrong. You’re making a blanket statement about every user on this forum, but we know differently, so why bother? “Not one valid post”? The whole point of your thread is invalid.

My house is bigger than your house, la la la poo poo." I don't need to give myself self affirmation. Maybe it's not that you have an inferiority complex, maybe you're just are inferior.
I'm just kidding….Don't take me seriously, evar!
The media is great at exploiting the prevailing sentiment and/or shocking event in an effort to sell more ads and subscription. It has much less to do with reporting accurate news.

Alex_angel. I don’t think we get it yet.
Maybe you can clarify by answering the following simple question:How can you not be inconsistent when misinterpreting the improperly researched articles by the mass media irregardless of whether or not they fit or do not fit outside your current point of view ?
