ParticipantWe toured those homes early last year. In my opinion, really nice and unique in and out, really small back yards, some with nice views – if brown inland desert dotted with suburbs is your idea of a “view”. I left thinking you’d have to love your neighbors to live there, and that the houses would be great on larger lots.
If I recall they ranged something like 1m to 1.6m at the time.

ParticipantYeah, living close to the coast really sucks … in May and June, that is. I would trade in my central A/C unit and the associated bills and for about 30 extra days of coastal fog anytime.
No doubt. We live in CV just east of the 5 off Del Mar Heights, and we haven’t turned on AC or heater in over a year. I LOVE this weather. This coming from someone who lived and worked in Rancho Bernardo/Carmel Mountain. I will never live inland again.

ParticipantI think peoples’ issue with it is that it’s not just inaccurate, it’s wildly inaccurate – not just due to limited data, but to incorrect calculations. Maybe someone else knows more about that, I’d like to learn how it values properties.
A friend of mine has a house in Vista with a zestimate of $1.3m (and climbing, according to zillow), and he’d be lucky to get $1m for it today.
I don’t think it will ever threaten appraisers – it doesn’t store enough data about individual homes, and has no way of finding that information out without human intervention.

ParticipantMany people are still in denial, and/or they only listen to their personal agent/”friend” who feeds them misinformation on a weekly basis, without doing any of their own research. I know a few people like that, and I stopped talking about the market with them long ago.
