I’m sure they’re just trying to put on a good front. Deep down they are probably sick over it.
What they don’t know, and what you shouldn’t bother explaining (why cause them more pain?) is that taking into account inflation and the value of the dollar, it will likely never reach that “value” again. Ever. It might see the number $600k again in 20 years (5 is laughable), but again that will be far from today’s dollars.
And if they really do like living there and can afford it, who cares?

My wife wants a miniature horse and miniature cow. I laugh when she talks about it, but she’s serious, and it scares me a little, because it could actually happen.
Then we’d have to get some sort of livestock guard dog to protect them from coyotes, to go along with the existing Shih Tzus. A friggin’ zoo, is what that is.

RenParticipantOutsourcing, along with ridiculous stress levels, is the reason I switched from IT to technical writing. Very few people born to another language ever become top-notch English writers, so that’s one job in software which is never outsourced.
