ParticipantDont look now, but I think Mexico is in somewhat of a civil war. At least by violent death standards.
Yes, and in states without immigrants, of any legal status, nothing gets done that pays less than $10/hour. (sarcastic remark)May 23, 2009 at 10:53 AM in reply to: OT: Schwarzenegger proposes the complete elimination of all state welfare programs #405259peterb

ParticipantIt will be interesting to see if the welfare is really cut or not. And what ramifications would come from it? Perhaps a rise in the crime rate? Who knows. CA does not have a sustainable game plan, so it must be changed. People could leave, but where would they go?
It may be a very wise strategy to stay very flexible in these uncertain times. Life in CA may become very nasty for a while.May 23, 2009 at 10:17 AM in reply to: OT: Schwarzenegger proposes the complete elimination of all state welfare programs #404928peterb

ParticipantDoesnt really matter what label is given to people. It’s whether or not they have funds to withstand this economic down turn. The poor are getting and will continue to get slammed as this progresses. From both a pull-back in govt services as well as available employment. “Scape goating” will only add to their woes. I would not want to be in their shoes in normal times, but now it’s going to get much worse for them.

ParticipantAll services feed off productivity that creates profitability, in some way. No matter who performs them. We’re gonna start finding this out the hard way in the future. The free ride looks to be coming to an end. The people that create and make things that the rest of the world wants will have the money. Services will take what these people offer.
