ParticipantI’d love to know if anyone comes up with a new loan product that produces lower monthly payments than Interest Only and Option ARMs. I’m afraid that’s as low as it goes and borrowers can’t even afford those. We’re not only talking San Diego here, but Indiana, and Ohio and Texas were prices are much lower.

ParticipantBy shelter money, I didn’t mean avoid taxes completely. There are many ways to lower one’s tax burden. The richer one is, the more creative one can get. Estate planning is a full-time profession in of itself.
Taxes on income is different from taxes on wealth. You can grow wealth without being taxed until the gain is realized (see Blackstone). That’s why we need an estate tax, otherwise, wealth accumulated would never get taxed. Wealth doesn’t happen in a vacuum but is created by the society in which we live in. It would be of great benefit to those who can grow wealth, pass it on to heir without paying taxes (contributing to society). Billionaires like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett support the estate tax because they believe in giving back to society.
It not hard for people with great wealth to continue to grow that wealth while earning very little income and thus paying little income taxes.
It’s always funny to me that those who don’t have great wealth support abolishing the estate tax. They are seduced by the simple rhetoric of the Republicans. Actually, if those voters are stupid enough to vote against their own interest, then who am I to judge?

ParticipantHow about going with climate appropriate landscaping? Drought resistant landscaping sans the lawn is very beautiful. It takes a little more creativity to design an attractive landscape.
That would save water and lower maintenance. The lawn is such a paradox in a semi-desert climate such as Temecula. To me, it’s such a sign of waste.

ParticipantGood topic, jg. What you say makes sense to me.
As a Christian you should say the money “goes to heaven.” 🙂
Some of your writing is quite descriptive. I like the “cool as a cucumber” expression.

ParticipantThe law is the law and it’s perfectly legitimate for individuals to shelter their money. Nothing wrong with Hollywood stars or other well-to-do individuals sheltering their money. I would do the same.
From what’s best for society, my ideals are those who own the largest portion of the wealth (that society generates) also pay the largest portion of the taxes (contributions to society). The estate tax is a wealth tax and that’s fair in my view. We should mend it not end it.
I also agree that _American Idol_ and _The OC_ are trash.

Participantjg, i’d love to see your radio dial stuck at NPR!
I support El Presidente and I’ll be writing in support the bill. Yes, we should pass that immigration reform bill. That’s the right thing to do.
Unlike most Democrats, I do support the point system. I would go a step further and offer automatic green cards to any BS/BA or above graduate of the top 200 American universities, or MS/MA graduate of the top 200 foreign universities. We should let the smart people in if we want to be competitive.
I fully support letting smart, well-educated would-be immigrants jump ahead of family reunification applicants.

Participant“They claimed that we would see financial independence in 3 years if we gave them control of our finances and trusted them (they claimed to be Christians).”
“If you have been approached to do business with them, do so at your own risk. You should seek the advice of an accountant or your own lawyer no matter what.”
coreclient, the quote above from your website says it all. If you’re not a fool for believe that you can achieve financial independence in 3 years, then I don’t know what you are. You like greed drive you. Why didn’t you follow your own advice?
