ParticipantWe had a brief 6-month recession in 1991/1992 (if I remember well). However short-lived that was, it remained in the public’s mind for much longer and cost GHWB the elections, despite the victory in the Gulf.
I’m afraid that the the coming recession will last 1-2 years. Imagine what that’ll do to psychology.

ParticipantSteve B, I beg to differ. Certain neighborhoods that I’ve been watching have already dropped 10% to 15%. However, the listings have not sold yet, hence the lag in the stats reflecting reality.
I’m not sure what the future will bring. Let’s see what the stats show 1 year from now. Patience is a virtue.

ParticipantThose signs should be banned, promptly removed and thrown away. If you see litter, you pick it put and put it in the trash can.
If you live in and HOA, any real estate sign on HOA property can be picked up and thrown out.

ParticipantThanks for the link. Very interesting.

ParticipantI really love Bay Park location wise. But I’d hate to pay that much for a house that I’d have to remodel before moving in. I don’t deal well with bad insulation and no air-conditioning and leaky plumbing.

ParticipantJES, what is the difference between what you’re advocating and not invading Iraq in the first place? It’s pretty clear to me that Iraq was a mistake.
Now that the mistake was made, how do we solve the problem? I don’t have the answer. But America needs to take responsibility for its error and not leave the Iraqi people in worse shape that when we first got in. It’s our moral responsiblity and our national interest depends on it. If we fail to fix our mistake, American influence will suffer for decades to come.
I’d say that the first step is to admit our errors and get rid of the people who caused that fiasco. Then we can come up with new ideas to fix the problem.

ParticipantHere’s an interesting Union Tribune article on urban condos. Interesting concept. No CC&Rs and no HOA payments.

ParticipantHa,ha, I had a good laugh also. LOL.

ParticipantWhat’s the difference between a flipper and a couple purchasing a fixer upper in expectation of appreciation and moving up next year? Seems to me that 80% of that market was comprised of flippers.

ParticipantI just checked. Craigslist For Sale listings are just BS. Since everything is on the MLS, I won’t hold my breath for a good deal on Craigslist.
However, you can find a good deal in the For Rent listings.

ParticipantVCJIM, why not move and teach the landland a lesson. Can you find a nicer place for the same rent?
What does it matter if the landlord’s cost is increasing? Is that your responsibility?

Participantpowayseller, you keep mentioning the new lending guidelines. However, it appears the it’s still business as usual. I’m not holding my breath for the tighter lending as there doesn’t seem to be any stomach to enforce them. I guess we’ll see tighter lending when we see it.

ParticipantIf our political leaders and Chamber of Commerce are really serious about affordable housing, they should encourage (by supporting more lenient permitting and taxation) even more building as the market crashes. That will create more affordable housing for the general population.
How about making the housing industrial complex the sacrificial lamb for the benefit of all? That would be a really bold move for once. Since I own real estate, I’m not just being partisan.
