On a long-term basis, I agree with you and pri_dk. On a monthly snapshot, I find it a helpful sanity check as in, how can inflation only be 1-2% when gas is doubling?
Just on ZH today – the graph is awesome: http://www.zerohedge.com/article/tale-two-inflations-here-why-us-cpi-indicator-flawed-and-why-bernanke-will-maintain-zirp-rev

Participant
The problem with America’s image in the Middle East is that we have been backing the dictators for dedades. Each year, Egypt receives $1 billion of American military assistance, money which is cycled back to American military contractors.
And with a little luck, it sounds like the Egyptian military will be using US-supplied tanks to overthrow their government (that we backed).
Just like the other dictators our government/CIA has installed over the past 20 years, that have turned on us time and time again.
Hopefully the Egyptian people will be successful in recapturing their country.

ParticipantCustom vs tract home boils down to one thing: Windows
Tract homes use vinyl windows.
True custom homes use wood or metal.
Once you notice this, it’s hard to consider paying $1.3M for a mass-produced 2×4 box with vinyl windows. It’s like buying the jumbo size at Costco. XXL mediocrity.
