ParticipantIt is not the next logical step. We are talking about allowing adults to marry. There is nothing about civil unions that will erode protections for minors.

ParticipantI recently walked through some model homes in Phoenix and compared what you can get new to what resales are available for the same price. From what I saw, the new homes are a better deal right now. There are lots of streets in new subdivisions where the builder has not even finished all the homes and there are four or five for sale signs.

ParticipantAllowing civil unions is not going make a great change in society. People are not suddenly going to choose to be homosexual becaue they can now get married.
A friend tried to argue that marriage was only for procreation. If that is the only case for marriage, then only fertile people should be allowed to get married.

ParticipantI know a few people who have really stretched into their 2+M loan and are having a hard time making payments. I am sure they get hit by AMT. People at all levels are just hanging on.
For a couple, what is the threshold for AMT?

ParticipantI can only assume that there is a high concentration of sex offenders in that area because they are not being chased away. I have little doubt that the ratio downtown is no where near representative of the ratio elsewhere. You can’t judge the rest of San Diego (or America) by what is taking place in the downtown area.

ParticipantBgates, I always love your posts. They are so factual, reasoned and well done. Thanks!

ParticipantI think any two people (man/woman, woman/woman, man/man) who are in a committed relationship should be allowed to get married in the eyes of the law (and achieve all of legal protections, recognition and tax benefits that entails). As far as churches are concerned, they can choose not to recognize those unions.
I am very conservative in some areas but very liberal in others.
I am also a proponent of stem cell research. There are thousands of people out there who are sick and/or dying whose lives can be dramatically improved or saved by this research. All of those people have mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, spouses, children and friends who are suffering along with them. How can the welfare of a handful of cells be more important than all of these other people? I say that the welfare of those living, breathing, thinking and loving should be far more important.
I predict that Perrychase will agree with me on civil unions and Powayseller will not. 🙂

ParticipantI lived in a townhouse in Aliso Viejo (OC). My landlord paid $170,000 (I don’t know how close that was to the peak) for it and offered to sell it to us for $130,000 in 1994.

ParticipantIt is laughable that anybody would actually be convinced that Rush is gay by that article. It is so obviously short on evidence and long on accusations. They quote no one who has witnessed Rush’s supposed homosexuality. Have any of his three wives come out publicly and stated he is gay? Have any partners come forward? Are there any pictures or other proof?
Could he be gay? It is possible but seems improbable. Has it been proved? Absolutely not.
That article was clearly a piece of anti-Rush propaganda full of a bunch of unfounded accusations that may well prove to be slanderous.PD
ParticipantConcho, so pain related drug addition is okay so long as the injury was sustained in battle. Any other pain related drug addition means that person is a fool.
I don’t quite see it that way. I think you are making excuses for Kennedy (maybe because you like him) but aren’t willing to make excuses for Rush (maybe because you dislike him). What does this say about your partiality?I think their drug additions reflect poorly on both of them.

ParticipantLandlords in Coronado are used to lots of military families renting their properties. Military families usually get two or three year leases. I really don’t think you will have any trouble finding a longer lease.
Rental prices went up a lot last summer. This was partially caused by the fact that all occupants of the officer housing on the Naval Amphibious Base were moved out so that that the houses could be torn down and rebuilt (there will be more than were there before). All those people flooded the rental market at the same time.
Winter is the best time to look for a house to rent in Coronado.
