ParticipantFair enough. Do you think we will see a 15% decline if we are heading (or already in) a recession?

ParticipantMy rental is 50 times yearly rent. 🙂
Some areas are much more out of whack than others.
I don’t like renting either. However, I look at it as though I am paying myself to rent (through the depreciation I would be seeing if I owned right now).

ParticipantThese conspiracy theorists are like a person dipping a cup in the ocean, lifting it up and proclaiming, “Witness this full glass of conspiracy confirmation!” Meanwhile, they ignore the ocean of contradictory data at their feet.

ParticipantFSD, at the time Powayseller created this thread, we were discussing this issue in a different thread. In the other thread, powayseller (if I remember correctly) presented data showing that the stock market typically drops a certain percentage during a recession (per Roubini?). Since she was calling a recession to start very shortly, she applied that percentage drop to the current S&P numbers. Voila, a drop to 600. She then started this thread.
Of course, this is all from memory and I have not dug through the posts from that time to verify.Powayseller, was this how it happened?
So, Powayseller may end up being right about the drop (percentage wise) but wrong about the onset of the drop. I think she has gotten too much flak for this post as people have either forgotten or never read the previous thread.

ParticipantPerry, you said:
I don’t see the logic in this. Gore has limited amount of time and if he spends his time meeting with CEOs and heads of states and convinces them to reduce pollution from factories and power plants, he would do much more good than working on his own house. Gore’s most useful contribution is as an “evangelist” for the environment.Geez, Perry, yet another free pass for Gore. First, you gave him a free pass because he is rich and now you give him one because he is busy. Come on! Did you really think I imagined Gore up on his roof with a tool belt slung around his hips? Rich, busy people have it much easier than us regular folks when it comes to home improvement. They hire it done. Simple, huh? What excuse are you going to come up with for Gore now? Maybe he is going to come up a with cold, lose his voice and be unable to tell his assistant to hire people to retrofit his house.
There are all sorts of things that can be done besides cutting down trees, Perry.
I remember a story about a cop, famous for giving DUIs, who received a DUI himself. I had a similar reaction to that story as I did to this one.

ParticipantIf Gore was really, deeply concerned about the environment, he would be working hard on retrofiting his home to be more environmentaly friendly. In post after post, he is given a free ride because he is rich, famous, a politician and has an old house. So what! Like someone else said, he needs to walk the walk.
I am actually surprised that he missed such a great opportunity. He could have spent a good portion of his film documenting all of the wonderful green changes he made to his family home. He would have been worshiped all the more!
Faugh to hypocrisy!PD
ParticipantUh, the point here is that Gore needs to examine his own behavior. He is setting himself up a moral standard bearer yet he is a huge consumer of energy. He needs to clean up his own act or else he has no legitimacy.
The church does not lose legitimacy because of a bad priest (unles it condones bad behavior). However, the priest loses legitimacy.
The green movement does not lose legitimacy because Gore consumes pigish amount of enegry. Gore himself loses legitimacy.

ParticipantThere were all sorts of reports that were wrong that day. I kept a journal as things were happening. Journalists were reporting rumor furiously. Much of that reporting turned out to be wrong. That is what happens in such a crazy situation.
So the BBC was in on it to, huh? What tripe!
PD
ParticipantHe should be turning his home into a showplace for alternative energy. Otherwise, his consumption makes him look foolish.
I like how PerryChase gave Gore a free ride on this one because he is a rich guy. I guess all rich people can consume as much as they want, according to Perry. Therefore, since Amercians are richer than most of the world, we can consume as much as we want! Yippie!! Hummers for everyone!! Let poor people tighten their belts, they are used to it!

ParticipantI’ve read on other blogs that Gold was hammered because some big players needed to liquidate because of margin calls.
PD
ParticipantIf I remember correctly, the actual call was a drop off the high by a certain percentage. At the time this thread was started, that percentage equaled a drop to 600.
Does anybody remember what that percent drop was? Wasn’t it something like 28%?Did anybody else avidly watch the market today? It looks like markets around the world are continuing the slide tonight. What will Wednesday bring?
February 26, 2007 at 7:31 PM in reply to: Why will Coronado prices continue to rise or will they? #46312PD
ParticipantSorry I didn’t respond sooner, eagleeye.
Here is an example of loss in Coronado:
17 Bahama Bend
7/29/05 $1,350,000
1/16/07 $1,200,000
I think they overpaid at 1.2 but I’ve been told that it is very nice inside. This is going to be a loss for the purchaser:
940 E Ave #1
3/18/05 $1,200,000
It has been for sale for a long time and has had a bunch of price reductions. Now asking $1,250,000 – 1,299,000. They are going to have to reduce this further to move it. With selling and holding costs, they are underwater.I was watching this house:
315 Alameda
They were asking $1,085,000. It just sold for $1,000,000. An even 1M for a 1,900 sq ft house on a 3k lot is certainly down from ’05, regardless of which street it is on.Does anybody have recent sold/pending info for 92118?

ParticipantIf this is the development east of Yuma, it is doomed. Every time my husband and I drive by it, we wonder how long it will be before the whole thing goes back to desert.

ParticipantI take issue with the claim that Greenspan PLANNED to ruin the economy. They make good points but lose credibility when they make these claims about Greenspan.
