Why not go with a credit union? I don’t understand why people would put their money in big banks and pay all the fees. Usually, it’s people with low bank balances that pay all the per item fees.
patientlywaitingParticipant“The frumpy and homely do mortgages!” LOL.
In the corporate world, the best sales people of expensive equipment are young attractive women. They get to lunch with the Directors and CEOs. Once they get the foot in the door, they bring in the technical people. Peregrine of SD was known to hire attractive sales people before the execs got indicted for fraud and sold to HP.
September 18, 2007 at 9:57 AM in reply to: One in 224 California households foreclosed in August #84963patientlywaitingParticipantI didn’t expect things to get this bad, this fast. The economy is apparently still strong. What will happen as the economy weakens and teeters on the verge of recession?
patientlywaitingParticipantcitydweller, BTW, I think what you do is very commendable. But I wonder if most people can do the same.
How come it takes the bus only 10 min to get to work with all the stops, but it takes you 14 min when you drive?Lindi, you’re right it’s scary that people are strapped for time but that’s modern life for you. With work, kids, gym, extra curricular activities, etc, families hardly have time to sit down for dinner together, much less prepare the meal.
patientlywaitingParticipantCitydweller, 7 min + 18 min = 25 min vs. 14 min by car.
You have too much free time it seems. Why is your PO Box Downtown and not close to your home? I think that 1 hr to go check the mail it too much wasted time. What if a friend calls you for dinner or a drink?
What if it rains? Some cities in the world have covered sidewalks to facilitate pedestrial traffic during bad weather. Those cities also have all kinds of shops and interesting things to see as you walk. San Diego has nothing to see.
In New York, lower Manhattan is dead because of the huge blocks of office buildings. Upper Manhattan is much more pedestrian friendly and better place to live.
patientlywaitingParticipantnavydoc, if you’re going to be at Balboa, you might try to convince your wife to select Mission Hills or Bankers Hill. Some houses there are quite beautiful.
patientlywaitingParticipantI wonder why the Bushes live in Texas. They could afford to live anywhere. Dick Cheney lives in Texas only for political purposes but his real home is in Jackson, Wyoming, which is a very nice place full of rich people.
The Clintons knew better not to return to Arkansas.
Millionaires like to retire in Palm Springs. The dry heat must be good for arthritis.
patientlywaitingParticipantGood idea Peace. Free public transport will begin a sea change. People would have a choice of spending a minimum of $700/mo on car payments, gas and insurance or free public transport. Guess what they’ll choose?
Get the masses addicted to public transport and raise the prices later.
Another idea might be, buy one ticket, get two free.
patientlywaitingParticipantGreenspan is acknowledging what we already knew. BFD!
And Iraq is really about oil. Wow, that’s a big surprise!
patientlywaitingParticipantThe local government should do away with parking space requirements and let developers build high-rises next to transport hubs. That will spur higher housing density and the us of mass transit.
LOL, Mixxalot, if you met a girl in Del Mar and told her you had to take the bus home, she’ll drop you like an old shoe. But if you drive a Porsche you can be sure that you’ll get a second date. She might even ask you to drive her home the same evening. I’m afraid that SoCal girls don’t date guys who ride public transport or drive old cars.
September 17, 2007 at 8:43 AM in reply to: possible rate cut this tuesday;will it boost home sales & prices? #84800patientlywaitingParticipantA 25bp rate cut won’t help RE but it’ll be a lifeline for the banks and improve their profit margins.
September 17, 2007 at 8:39 AM in reply to: Are the developers as a whole in trouble? Big TROUBLE???! #84799patientlywaitingParticipantMany small development LLCs will declare bankruptcy just like they did in the 90s. Then 10 years from now, if those guys are still alive, they’ll spring back into action. In the mean time, they’ll just shrink to skeleton crews and do small less profitable jobs.
patientlywaitingParticipantI went to 4S a while back with some friends.
I like the Maybeck models the best in that price range. Cool separate guest room which would be great for a teenager.
Pienza is the worse with low ceiling upstairs. They look like 1980s houses.
Of course, the houses are still overpriced.
patientlywaitingParticipantI think that the small shops in North Park, Hillcrest, Downtown, etc. will close during the recession. Many of those small business opened thanks to home equity extraction.
Who would pay $10 for a candle or such useless junk? Who would pay $5.00 for a quart of milk when you can get 2 gallons for $5.00 at Costco.
If we want a more densely populated areas, we need mass transit linking apartment dwellers to multi-story shopping centers like they do in other countries. Small affordable luxury, street level, stores won’t last when the home equity ATM dries up. Those type stores are fine in some high end neighborhoods or tourist areas, but they don’t make economic sense is most areas.
I know of two people who took home loans to start businesses. They aren’t making enough to pay themselves, the rent, and service the loans. They will eventually have to give up.
