FYI, 100% metals is a 100% losing bet. Precious metals are in a bubble that has yet to deflate. I expect a 50% decline in the value of gold and a 30% decline in the value of silver by the end of 2010.
Some metals are fairly valued. You could buy a few tons of titanium scrap (~$3000/ton) and store it in a shed in your backyard.
Eugene, I am still waiting for that deflation in metals π
Gold at $1242.9; silver at $19.64 (silver is up $2 in the past week alone, now that JP Morgan’s illegal shorting scheme is being investigated by the DOJ).
Get on board this train, or get the hell out of the way and get plowed over by it. It’s your choice. In 18 months, $1200 gold will seem like the biggest bargain in history.

partypupParticipantPeople, wake up: this bill has absolutely nothing to do with the care of our health.
This is a stealth tax increase to pay for the trillions in bailout dollars that have been heaped upon the backs of Americans for the past 24 months.
This is precisely why Obama was been focused with laser beam precision on health care ever since he stepped into office instead of focusing on the problem that every American is obsessed with: jobs. His one and only concern has been how to avert the effects of his spending in the short term in order to (a) keep his party in office through 2010 and (b) with lots of luck and a few miracles, get him re-elected in 2012. Sadly for these jokers, I suspect they will fail on both counts.
This is also precisely whey the costs of this bill are being front-loaded for 4 years. Would you pre-pay co-pays to your doctor for 4 years? No. By the time 2014 rolls around, our debt will be so severe that there’s no way in hell there will be any money left in the health care *lockbox*. Peter will be robbed to pay Paul, and we’re Peter.
Another clue as to the real intent of this *health care* bill is the entity that is enforcing coverage payments: the I.R.S. How many more people do we want flying their planes, buses and cars into the sides of I.R.S. buildings because they can’t handle the tax increases or are simply too strapped to afford compulsory coverage? Whenever you get the I.R.S. involved in ANYTHING it spells misery and disaster.
If Obama and the Dems were to come clean and admit what is really going on, it would sound something like this: “My fellow Americans, it is true that we have screwed the pooch. My predecessor did it, and I am presently taking it to new levels. The only alternative at this point to a complete implosion of our economy by 2010 mid-terms is to institute an across-the-board tax hike. Now, I realize that you people weren’t consulted when we decided to throw money into TARP and the $800 billion *stimulus* bill. I know that most of you vehemently opposed both of these bills. But what can I say? My masters wanted *change*, and I gave it to them: the change in your pocket, that is. But rest assured, you will get something for your sacrifice: rather than 50% of you receiving decent health care, ALL of you will now receive mediocre health care.”
Obama and the Dems have now officially sold their souls to the darkest of the dark side. They, alone, will have to live with this unprecedented betrayal. I only hope that the spot in hell reserved for all of them lacks any ventilation whatsoever.
People, it is officially time to pick up your torches and pitchforks. War has been declared against you.

partypupParticipant
Oh my god. Armageddon has arrived. The lawyers are out of work. Crap, this could get ugly. Fast. Big, scary, evil roaming hordes of blood-thirsty cannibals living off the flesh of a tattered civilization lost to a moral decay, Goldman Sacs and peak oil.
Kids, breakout what ever weapon you have. I don’t care if it’s a baseball bat, gun….hell, even a damn 2×4 will do. Once the blood-thirsty zombie army of attorneys has to start giving up the 250K/yr jobs, private club memberships and starbucks lattes in 24K gold to-go mugs they are going to have to eat…something. The Ivy league zombie lawyers will eat the brains of a small child in seconds. Nasty bloodsuckers!
Seriously though, when did lawyers actually make something that contributed to GDP?
Finally, to all you paranoid, end-of-civilization heads espousing the eminent coming of ‘Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome’, you need to take off the tinfoil, back away from the PC you’ve been sitting at for days straight and go outside and get some toxic, soot-laden air into your rotting, diseased lungs.
It’s going to be just fine. Really.
Lawyers contribute very little of worth to the GDP, and I count myself among that lot. The career decision has paid off for me financially for the past couple of decades, but I would be lying if I said that I was happy with what I contribute to society on a daily basis. So sue me π
That said, you are really fooling yourself if you think that unemployed people – regardless of how much they made or what value they serve to society – are not YOUR problem. Very soon, the volume of unemployed lawyers, accountants, Ivy league brats, vermin, whatever the hell you want to call them – is going to affect YOU, my friend. Because when they don’t have jobs, they don’t buy. Period. And the wheels of commerce will slowly grind to a halt. Unless, of course, you are fortunate to have a job that is in no way dependent upon another living being to buy (directly or indirectly) what you are selling, making or providing. What are you, an assassin or something? Are you the only person on this board NOT affected by the economy?
I love how people only envision one of two possibilities in the future: everything is either going to be “just fine”, or it’s going to be “Armageddon”. WTF?? Is your life really that black and white? How’s that level of nuanced thinking worked out for you so far?
