ParticipantQuick (concerning) video on the shutdown:

ParticipantWhat I don’t understand is that since govt workers are going to get back pay for no work, why not just send them back to work now?
paramount
ParticipantIt’s really hard to argue that a 328 is a better car than an accord or Camry.

Participant@flu: When I bought my 328 it had about 2 days of factory warranty left. I did have the full history, it was a lease return. I remember that the heads had been replaced, which was a known issue with the 328.
The code was something like: engine (or coolant) did not reach operating temp.

Participant
I just called and the commissary at 32nd St NAVSTA SD has opened back up for regular business hours beginning this morning. That’s good news.
Is the 32nd St NAVSTA really just code for you’re going to wal mart?

ParticipantThe overall driving experience of the 328i is excellent, it feels very well made.
But, I just can’t understand how on one hand BMW’s seem to be well made, and then on the other very unreliable (or at least they need lot’s of TLC/$$).

Participant
The state is obviously attempting to make it really hard for Joe and Suzy 6pack to keep driving their $2-$6K vehicles to work and back.
That’s called tyranny.
A couple of weeks ago the state was running a smog checkpoint in RB.

Participant
And paramount, you must know that if your car actually really needs a new battery to clear that electrical code, this is only a $75 – $100 problem and the connectors are $6-$12 each.
Replacing a battery in a newer BMW is around $500.

ParticipantThanks BG…
I have a fairly advanced OBD II reader, and a really good idea what the problems are…
1. The cooling system is shot (water pump/thermostat)
2. Electrical problems related to the batteryNot to mention all (4) brakes are history ($1500 + on a BMW) – I could do this myself…
I should have bought the Avalon.
Well, at least I got it out of my system.

ParticipantThe low information crowd has been conned into: Why can’t they get this solved an open the govt back up!?
This shutdown IS the solution.
*The fed govt is way to big
*Far, far to many rely on the fed govt for any number of things which should be state or private sector or charity.paramount
ParticipantNo, they’re pushing for that trillion dollar coin.

But to clarify – It’s not just sending federal workers home.
* It’s WIC (formula and milk for low income children)
* It’s IRS call centers (which are pretty busy right now because if you filed for extension – that deadline is 10/15.)
* It’s VA call centers. And applications for VA disability are on hold.
* The NIH has halted research.
* It looks like if you’re a green card applicant – your visa app is on hold, even though the clock is still ticking on your application. (I work with several VERY concerned folks.)
* New applications for small business loans aren’t being accepted.
* Locally – Miramar air base is shutting down the commissary, the day care, the youth sports programs, etc. This impacts a lot of families in San Diego. I would imagine it’s similar at North Island.
And it can be argued that many of those federal govt functions are unconstitutional anyway…
BTW, most are able to walk through the woods perfectly fine without govt help.
paramount
ParticipantShouldn’t this shutdown be break even scenario?
I mean they’re not paying million + govt workers/contractors.
