Ox,
I e-mail to my friend today and it is too late. He already made the deposit. I had warned him and e-mailed him the links to the rental websites on Sunday. Maybe my warnings, that were made before you exposed the scam, were not strong enough. He is traveling from Switzerland to NYC in a few days. I guess we will know the hard way if this is really a scam. I’ll keep you posted. I will phone my friend and ask more details rather than using e-mail. Thanks.
Sorry to hear that bubble. 🙁
I emailed the scammers and said I would be in NYC this Thursday to hand them a check and view the apartment. Here is his reply:
“Hi,
All the infos you asked is on the paper works.
Remember the apartment is first call, first serve. Next week might be too late.
Thanks.”I have not heard back from him.
Perhaps your friend can contact the bank to start an investigation and hold the funds using the information provided. He should act fast. Good luck with all that.

Wow. These scammers are amateurs. The entire point of doing things via a western union wire service is so that the perp couldn’t be traced back to the transaction..
If the dude gave you a bank account # and routing number, then it’s either a stolen account, or they are incredibly stupid.
Notice that there are TWO different bank accounts. They probably have a few and just open and close them around town — as needed.

I called their scam phone number 917-210-0504 and it is continually busy with a long silence before the busy signal is heard. A search of the number in Google revealed a scam page of Vacation Rental Scam Directory with a listing for Delores & Estrada Shelton with the same email address
http://www.homeaway.com/info/ownercommunity/security-and-screening/scams-pageOn the rental agreement, mode of payment is:
MODE OF PAYMENT (VIA BANK TRANSFER):SEE DETAILS BELOW)
NAME OF BANK: ……….. HSBC BANK
ACCOUNT NAME:……….. Estrada Property Management
ACCOUNT NUMBER :……..872007863
ROUTING NUMBER:………122240861
SWIFT CODE:…………………HSBCUS33XXX
DEPOSIT: … $570This is different from the one on their email.
They are listed as Estrada Property Management. A quick search on Google reveals they are a scam and fraud.
