SUV runs over motorcyclist who did nothing to the SUV driver. That fact taken by itself sounds worse than the 200# husband beating his 100# wife.
You want facts or context; and if context, how much context?
Aww, you scared him away.
Quick, somebody start talking about medical care in Thailand, the obesity epidemic…. wait, flu, start attacking liberals again, that’ll draw him out. Hurry, quick, stat!!!

October 11, 2013 at 3:47 PM in reply to: OT: Super Trendy Dude! Helmet Law for Walking/Nanny State #766751ocrenterParticipantSo the premise is to hire people to go out and collect signature for a fake initiative to force people to wear helmets while walking.
Most of the people just don’t even care, probably signing just so they can leave without saying no. I think this is a good study to show that if you are able to fund enough people to stand on a corner collecting signatures, you can pretty much collect enough signatures for anything.
It’s almost identical to the video from Jimmy Kimmel on Obamacare vs ACA. The majority of the public are misinformed or not informed. And as long as someone with an agenda has enough money, they can use propaganda to alter public perception.

+1
There were more well thought out posts on the Justice for Jay Meezee page than some of the posts here.
ocrenterParticipant
Thank you very much for posting this, OCR. This is very helpful.
They always tout savings around $800-$1,400 per year, but that doesn’t seem to be quite the case. Still, not a bad investment.
CAR, it definitely still pays to switch over to a variable speed pump, there’s so much more flexibility with what you can do with the settings. The huge savings would be possible if the pool cleaner is not an issue and if water temp is not an issue. I’m thinking savings may therefore be more during the off season as we no longer need to maintain the water temp at 90 as my wife prefers, will reduce the 2800 rpm cycle from an hour down to 30 min. We had a lot of spa usage last month which will also likely drop down as we head toward cooler temp.
Definitely if you are thinking about solar the variable speed pump should go in first.
ocrenterParticipantJust reviewed my electric bill over the last month. Our bill in September was exactly the same as our August payment, but this needs to be adjusted for the higher rate that kicked in for September and the exceptionally hot first part of the month. Given the first 2 weeks of September was essentially the 2 hottest week in the last 3 years, I ended up taking daily average electric use during weeks with no AC use before and after the installation of the variable speed pump.
Average kwh before the install was 23.7 kwh/day. Average kwh after the install was 19.7 kwh/day.
At 0.38 (new tier 4 rate) x 4 kwh x 30 = $45.6 per month saving.
After a month we just got the $200 rebate. So the pump after rebate was $600, translating to 13 month for the return on investment.
This is lower than previous projection on the ROI primarily due to the need to keep the pump at 2800 rpm one hour per day to keep the pool cleaner running and to keep the pool temp even and warm (at lower setting the water temp just under the pool cover is very warm while water at the deep end remained cold).
Still quite a worthwhile investment with the self install. ROI would be at 2 years if hiring an installer.

The biker in the white shirt seems to be remonstrating with him about it and then stupidly pulls on his brakes too hard probably not giving enough space and time for the SUV to avoid a collision.
Do you want to be added to the list of idiots? Take a full look at the video. I captured/downloaded it and used a viewer that allowed me to single frame. The guy in white with black vest moved into the SUV drivers lane from the left while parallel and next to the SUV. I even gave the timestamp. Do you want me to go and even get the video frame number of when the guy in white with black vest made the illegal lane change? This is why that guy is currently arrested. Turns out that the charges are very similar to the ones I mentioned.
would have to agree with ucodegen on this one.
Cruz (the guy that break checked Lien’s RR), was just to the left of Lien’s front wheel, he sped up, moved to the front of Lien’s RR, and did a sudden break check to force contact. It was all caught on video.
If you are driving on I-5, suddenly you are surrounded by 30 bikes, followed by a guy that cuts you off and break check you to force contact and stop you in the middle of the freeway, you wouldn’t be a little bit intimidated?
October 6, 2013 at 6:49 AM in reply to: OT: Justice for Alexian Lien: victim of mob beating… #766392ocrenterParticipant

2. Actual intent of the break check to draw contact is not known. Two possibilities, one is simply they were annoyed he did not move to the side of the road and allow the “Hollywood Stuntz” crew to own the entire highway, the other possibility was they targeted him for a shake down fee because of the luxury SUV.
I suspect that it was a shakedown.. but really can’t prove it. They made effort to conceal their identities (missing plates, dark visors), and didn’t target the white panel van that was to the right of Lien’s Range Rover. Guy in White Panel van not rich, asian in black Range Rover – he rich and timid eh? You can see the panel van leaving the scene unmolested.
but the guy in the white panel van was off to the side. I’m just going with their mentality that they think they “own the road” and therefore may have been pissed off at Lien’s RR for still driving in the middle of “their highway”. But a shakedown is certainly very possible as well.

A free for all with guns in this case would mean 30 guns vs 1 gun. A few of the 30 guns would probably be assault style weapons capable of spraying down the Rover.
AFAIK, full-auto guns are not legal in most states, are all but banned for sale on the Federal level, and are expensive to obtain.
never tried to imply the assault style weapons would be full-auto.
October 5, 2013 at 12:09 PM in reply to: OT: Justice for Alexian Lien: victim of mob beating… #766363ocrenterParticipant
Other than the undercover cops in the crowd which should have done something, the NYPD lacks the ability to teleport to the scene of a crime in progress. Especially if traffic is backed up along a fairly narrow highway (look at the map — 3 very narrow lanes per direction /w no shoulder) and the crime scene is moving.
Though I’ve heard the complaint that they focus too much on lower (below 100th St) Manhattan due to tourism, which may be a valid one.
Police are people, not superhumans. Yes, they have helicopters, but getting a helo into the air isn’t as simple as jumping into a squad car.
agree, NYPD strategy that weekend needs to be evaluated. It did look like they placed a lot of their forces in and around Time Square, which significantly handicapped their ability to take care of potential flash points elsewhere. The NYPD knew about the “Hollywood Block Party” and the problems caused last year. Did they really think by sealing off Time Square, the bikers would just drive back home? There should have been heavy police presence throughout the major thoroughfares, there shouldn’t have been “off duty cops” that weekend, IMHO.

I was admonished to look at facts. At this point the headline “SUV driver is chased and beaten after running over motorcyclist”, while sensational, is more factual than any presumption of guilt or innocence.
That implies Lien instigated the chain of event by running over the motorcyclist.
That is simply not true nor impartial.
if you want a headline that’s absolutely impartial and gets to the heart of the problem, it would be:
“Full blown melee between SUV and biker gang in broad daylight in middle of NYC, police presence completely absent.”

Everyone being armed doesn’t sound like a good answer here, though I suppose it may have diminished the likelihood of Mr. Lien being messed with in the first place. Or maybe not, since gang violence happens out West as well.
I wonder if they’d have played the same game with an old Bronco with NRA and HAMC stickers plastered on it, driven by a big goateed guy who looked like he could break bones by looking at them.
October 5, 2013 at 9:14 AM in reply to: OT: Justice for Alexian Lien: victim of mob beating… #766336ocrenterParticipantBiggest problem I’m seeing is how the NYPD was completely invisible throughout the entire affair. The video from the break check to the site where Lien was pulled out and beaten was over 6 minutes. There were zero NYPD within 5 minutes of what is a busy highway? They couldn’t anticipate where the bikers would be heading? They couldn’t get over to setup roadblock several exits ahead? Especially if Lien’s wife was on the phone with 911 during the chase.
The complete lawlessness of the whole affair in the middle of NYC just seem so bizarre.
