ParticipantComments about some of us being “sick in the head” and this site being a cover for NAMBLA? That seems like an “allusion” .
Besides that, he never takes the opportunity to discuss age appropriateness or other more reasonable aspects of the topic, that’s telling of a troll.

ParticipantAnyone would know this thread would bring Dan out. It’s just a question of how out.

ParticipantParamount is not a troll. he just says that anyone who disagrees with him is a homosexual pedophile. Perfectly logical if you are paranoid.
What’s the difference if the kids learn about religious cultures or that some humans pair bond with the same sex? I wish we had a large religion and philosophy survey curricula starting in kindergarten. Anthropology too…then all the kids who are going to drop out could get the good stuff first.

ParticipantThanks Car,
My sad story really isn’t that off topic.People basically do and think what they are groomed for with a little variance here and there.
I am in a hurry this morning but was think about your post about soulless jobs and whatnot yesterday.
How many people do we now who were groomed for the machine including it’s academic institutions. conformed wonderfully and now have some nice skills and a life with no stronger attributes than a job for a very mentally strong monkey and conspicuous and invidious consumption to show for it. We have some on piggington’s that nearly fit that mold. Lots of ways to have a sad life. Not aimed at piggs because we are all great parents no matter what..but you probably don’t want to be the child of this kind of person either. At least I was not Dick Cheney’s son , for instance.
I don’t want to expend the energy to relearn trumpet but I am leaning towards guitar for myself with the hopes that one of the kids will at least take it to the level of playing 3 or 4 chord songs and singing nice songs.

ParticipantI hate pink floyd.

ParticipantCaRenter,
My mother got me started on the trumpet in the 4th grade …she died when I was in the 5th and a few years later I had to go back and live with my father who killed my trumpet playing. He killed everything constructive and inflicted harm in its place. I was the only one out of 5 living with him who finished HS . In grade school all my brothers and sisters were some of the best kids….some never made it to the 9th grade. I only did a little better because of those years away from him…those other 4 did not have that. I actually have 100 units of college but didn’t want to finish for many reasons.
I shouldn’t make the trumpet joke because of this back story…but it’s funny when careers are being discussed. I don’t want to play the trumpet anymore but I help my kids with any musical interest and tell them of the benefits learning an instrument can bring. My middle son wants to play percussion and I am going to facilitate that. Last summer we enrolled him in a “stomp” class. I want them to play guitar, or a wind or brass instrument, but they are not having it.

ParticipantThis is really cool,
http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~gongsu/desiderata_textonly.htmlI always liked it…talks about career….I never got it….i guess it’t too easy to dismiss mariachi player as a viable career path.

ParticipantIf he got out for a while he might not ever be able to stomach the constraints and hoop jumping. He could get all philosophical and develop negative visions for almost all careers.
Anyway, cool that you have such a flexible attitude with him and that he is doing so well in a well rounded way. State is awesome and so are San Diego and our people.
From your first pigg name I thought you were in the machine…I don’t bring it up because maybe you changed it to protect your anonymity.
I think I would like have liked to be a trumpet player in a mariachi band in Mexico. Probably would have gone from there into telenovelas.

ParticipantI am not that uninformed. I misunderstood your point in at least some places and your general stance(which you have made clear). It didn’t help that you were acting like such a blowhard. A lot of theories are in the realm of possibility.

ParticipantNice bluff,
I think you could do some more reading. The scientific debate does involve the things I mentioned. We don’t know everything Darwin or not. We do know that all primates exhibit homosexual activities and always have. Making this a moral issue comes from the church(well before darwin) and some state’s agendas. I am sure some of us can be free from influence of those institutions ,or think we are, and be prejudiced too.

ParticipantGo ahead and explain why bi-sexuality makes no sense on so many levels.
If I am wrong about the other that’t my fault but I read it in a peer reviewed paper, I believe. There are also ideas that the transference of the trait falls under the realm of cultural anthropology. It is in all primate social orders and probably always has been.

Participant

Why — the world is overpopulated as it is. Fewer breeders would be a good thing.
(OK, maybe not for the R.E. market, but places like CA will always be desirable.)
We’ll – it sounds like you haven’t yet – so feel free to not procreate. The problem with that is that any genetic predisposition to not procreate will disappear from a population. Think about it.
Not if most people are bisexual or if women carry the gene. Not that I am stating either to be facts ….but think about it.

Participant
are you in the machine?
Probably always more or less. I have managed to be pretty independent and poor. Anytime you want to make a dollar you are in the machine right?Even guys like Gates and Jobs are in the machine once they want to make a dime. Not that it’s bad for them.
To be honest though, college for our generation, in many situations, should have been a no-brainer. I wasn’t groomed for it…Lacked the patience and needed achievement motivation. Freedom was a priority. I wanted to learn what I wanted to learn and definitely not spend my time specializing so that I could throw myself down some tube.
I may do volunteer work that I can find and am most happy at from here on out.
So, how is your college kid doing anyway?
