ParticipantReminds me of the time I was the only white man on my ships basketball team in the Navy. Some black guys who couldn’t make the team started calling me “Mr. Suburbia” …little did they know that just a few years earlier I was in a black head of household foster home , still not on the right sided of the tracks but in a better neighborhood than I grew up in.
When will poor people realize that how you vote is not going to affect your success much? That’s the myth that is probably really killing a lot of poor people. People pimpng Obama as a hope for poor black people instead of telling the truth are not helping.
People like you, Harvey, who are shouting down everyone who disagrees with them, are part of the problem.

Participant

It’s amazing to me that you take my views on this to mean I watch Fox and listen to Rush Limbaugh. You must have an “either you’re with us or against” us mentality that goes along with the mafia- like nature of the two major political parties that I described in an earlier post.
It’s amazing how there are millions of people of the US population watching Fox, Limbaugh and company – outlets whom are almost always in lock step on their talking points and positions – and yet nobody who shares these same positions in internet discussions will admit to tuning in to these shows.
Either we must have some massive population of independent thinkers that come to the exact same conclusions as the Fox editorial staff (often word-for-word) — or perhaps there is some secret telepathic broadcast?
I can’t explain it.
O.K. I admit it , here is some more FOX news stuff I was looking at.
http://disinfo.com/2014/07/cornel-west-obama-democrats/I don’t really know much about that site but it goes to show you such “diverse” corners from which you can hear things you don’t like!
The only persons name I know form FOX is Hannity and I could not pick him out of a line up! Thanks for the laughs!

Participant

So how would the progressive liberal police do their thing?
It’s hard for the Fox News/Limbaugh cult to comprehend, but the political persuasion of the the officer shouldn’t matter.
Your masters have you trained to think that “liberal” somehow means weak or indecisive. Never mind that the leaders of the American Revolution were liberals — there are plenty of progressive liberals in our military today that handle tough situations, use necessary force, and otherwise serve honorably without being bigots.
No reason cops can’t do the same.
Let’s see how Brian likes the question. Maybe you mean neo -liberal?

ParticipantYou are so off the mark. Diid I say Obama is running for something? I said the ruse is for the democrats. On this and the other thread you are making many wrong assumptions. I’ll just leave it at that.

Participant
Ok, you didn’t mean it that way. But I see that type of thinking a lot concerning cops and and soldiers.
The comments go like “shut the fuck up. You should be glad there are guys like that defending your safety and freedom. Your weak pathetic, wimpy, bleeding heart liberal ass never had to face reality. Now go out there and try it.”
So how would the progressive liberal police do their thing? In really crime ridden neighborhoods? In the case of 6 foot whatever 300 pound, Michael Brown going with the version that he assaulted the cop, ran , charged again? I mean when you weren’t arresting people for poor fashion choices and messy houses what would you do about all these violent people.

Participant

…you try it.
That’s saying “you’re too weak to police yourself so you’ll never understand reality. You’re not cut out for the job so don’t even talk.”
What about an ivory tower academic saying the same thing to imply “you’re too dumb, your IQ is too low to understand the abstractions of the law.”
No it’s not , it’s like saying “you try it”.August 24, 2014 at 12:35 PM in reply to: st. louis cop: “If you don’t want to get killed, don’t show up in front of me.” #777611NotCranky
Participant
But why go out of your way to be unpopular and disliked, especially if your behavior serves no constructive law enforcement purpose?
I am not arguing that at all…gotta go.August 24, 2014 at 12:31 PM in reply to: st. louis cop: “If you don’t want to get killed, don’t show up in front of me.” #777609NotCranky
ParticipantI didn’t say there are not a lot of good people, I said you wouldn’t be popular or even seem liked by anyone.

Participant
What about being effective, but not going out of one’s way to be an arsehole as this guy seems to have done? Or if you do, make sure it’s not being recorded for posterity.
BTW, one example is the second guy shot by cops in St. Louis. He was holding what looked to be a tiny knife down and yelling “shoot me! kill me!” Instead of treating him like the loony he was, and retreating back into their truck while trying to talk him down, the cops chose to yell, then empty nine or ten shots into him.
It shouldn’t always be a matter of “winning” the situation, but of creating an outcome where carnage is minimiz’d.
I hate when they shoot someone like that too…taking the particulars on your word. The only popular cop in a very bad neighborhood is going to be one who doesn’t do his job at all or worse is corrupt . That’s what I am talking about.

Participant
Actively doing and saying things that annoy the people being policed (rather than just policing them) won’t help G-d and Sonny Jesus in this quest. It’s hard to police an area with a large concentration of crims. It’s impossible if even the decent people come to dislike you.
Yeah even G-d and Jesus would become unlikeable by the nice people if they tried to do the policing for a while. That’s what I have been saying you either become weak and ineffective, or not nice or worse….you try it.August 24, 2014 at 11:26 AM in reply to: st. louis cop: “If you don’t want to get killed, don’t show up in front of me.” #777600NotCranky

ParticipantG-d and Jesus couldn’t police many areas in the U.S. in the current era.

Participant^^^^Actually, I was pretty much just satirizing the situation, it’s fucking awful.
I think I am more circumspect and insightful than you.. I actually score democrat on tests, still I don’t think one should get too bogged down in their isms.
The two parties are like separate mafias, the obvious result is that we can’t have much compromise between them. But it also means that there is no room for independent thought within each of them either. Which means both parties are tyrannical. Tyranny and democracy are incompatible…so you can’t even say we are a democracy neither of the parties are even democratic. I am afraid the public is just going to be more a more battered divided by the mafia dysfunction. What we are seeing now with the races is part of it. Probably fall of Rome stuff.
