ParticipantAs if RE deprecitation is the only way a persons portfolio could lose value? Aren’t a few people here pissed because it is going to be hard to support non RE assets and even cash in some scenarios in a crash? My mortgage payment is still going to be zero regardless or what happens to my overall net worth and I can have cash flow from it anytime I want, without loosing the asset. Some of you are at least as biased as Joe Realtor.
I know some you think this is very rude but I am talking to people who can presumably dish it out, and take it.

Participant“Therefore, it is more likely that the 70th or 75th percentile in income is likely to line up with the median price of a single family home. Recently it was as high as the 90th percentile. At the last low in San Diego in the mid 1990s it approached the 60th percentile, considerably above the median.”
As usual you have smart thingsto say on the topic at hand that tend to balance out the discussion.
“You know it does cost about 100 sqf to maybe 150 sqf to build these things (not counting the cost of land),
so it’s not going to zero guy’s,”It takes something to grow beautiful tomatoes too…but it doesn’t stop some from rotting on the vine. What I am saying, and it applies to both of your comments, is that housing is only as strong as the economy. We know it is going down because of the crazy lending based appreciation but we don’t know what kind of economy will be there to support it and for how long. The amount spent on something or what people were previously paying for something, regardless of any multiple of salary, could possibly be rendered historical footnotes. I doubt it but, for the sake of argument, I will pose this question.. how much are these houses worth in Mexico? Muy Poco.

ParticipantAnd if Rustico is reading, yes I know I need to get a life. But I have an excuse today. I’m jetlagged.
In my book one doesn’t tell someone who just went to China to get a life. Also, one must understand that excessive blogging can be a perfectly acceptable phase to pass through. I have enjoyed your stories…
What I really want to know is, if you were comparatively fat, did you walk more the 250 feet per day and did the kids seem smarter than your kids?
Rhetorical question posted.(inside joke). Thanks for your concern about our well being related to fires. Some people had it really bad but no piggs have reported anything awful. It has been about the crash either accelerating because of the fires or stopped in its tracks for the same reason, depending on the poster.
Best wishes.
