We recently bought in 4S. I reluctantly tolerate paying the mello-roos and HOA fees (which I absolutely hate) in exchange for living in a good neighborhood. These fees are becoming increasingly unavoidable nowadays. Aside from my disgust with these fees, we love the quality of life here.

I agree with you. We all need to make a compromise between dream and reality. I can think of a lot of things our current “dream” house could become a better dream house. I was just trying to say–don’t settle for a place you’ll hate from the beginning. Settle maybe for 9/10 or even 7/10 of your dream house.
