Participant

Not just candy. Society owes them health care, education, and a 6 figure job.
And capitalists think their employees, customers, etc. owe them a profit…often, a very sizable one that is in no way correlated to the amount of “work” done or the risk taken on the part of the capitalist.
CA Renter – I have to disagree. But I have to ask you a question – do you disagree with capitalism as an overall economic structure , or do you just not like parts of it?
In any event, no one holds a gun to anyone’s head and says you must work at this company or you must buy from this vendor (except, now that I think about it, the ACA). If you dont want to be cheated as an employee – start a business that doesn’t extract “sizable” profits (I’m including small businesses here). And in terms of being a gouged customer – there is always the DIY route. People did it for centuries. One could strive to be Amish (without the religion). I’m being a little flip here, but everything in life is a choice. And we should take care of those who are incapable of helping themselves, but not those who are unwilling.

Participant
Ok now getting back on topic:
Is the candy a gift? Not taxable or is it income?
Dies it matter if you are required to say trick or treat to get the candy?
Kids today; they think society OWES them free candy.
QUOTATION: The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.
ATTRIBUTION: Attributed to SOCRATES by Plato, according to William L. Patty and Louise S. Johnson, Personality and Adjustment, p. 277 (1953).

This fear for the future of our young people is as old as, well, Socrates. And my response to the flu/zk/etc argument is that we should reward those who contribute to society and help those who are not contributors to step up their game. Hard workers are good, regardless of where they come from. Hard workers with some creativity are even better, but there are few of those.

Yea I would have to agree with this part, without QCOM and all the tag along wireless industry in that area CV would not have been anything like it is today. It would still be an expensive area IMO but just not a ridiculously expensive one. 3000+sqf homes on 4000sfq lots etc… going for 1M+ (without Ocean views) and Condos going for 600-800K (without ocean views).
I must admit that to me seems ridiculously expensive.
I doubt that’s true. I lived there for almost 10 years. I met scores, maybe a couple hundred people. Never met anyone who worked at QCOM. I’m sure there are many. But not enough to have any significant effect on prices.
We were here, we moved to NJ, we moved back – and among all of the neighbors, friends/neighbors we’ve had I can only think of 2 QCOM people. High tech/biotech types, doctors and lawyers, mostly.

Participant
, it’s an easy introduction line that’s commonplace and complementary.
.
It’s a line that presupposes that women who are minding their own business are interested in the opinions of random (usually unappealing) men walking by. Compliments are only compliments if you respect the source ….

ParticipantAs PT Barnum said, you can’t cheat an honest man. In my experience the men who complain the most about superficial gold-diggers are usually similarly superficial, although they make their choices based on looks instead of money. Guys who are honest with themselves can see a gold-digger from a mile off.
I find it funny that the first sentence out of the guy’s mouth (in the video of the OP) was something to the effect of “you’re pretty I want to go out with you.” And he’s criticizing her for being superficial? They deserve each other.njtosd
ParticipantAnd I’m not aware of any Cougar school mascot around here . . . CVMS are the Bobcats, TPHS the Falcons and I believe CCA are the Ravens.

The cougar crowd looking for men of means was quite entertaining…

Seersucker and its predecessor, Burlap, both had/have that reputation. Arterra used to sell T-shirts advertising their “Cougar Night.” I find it odd that there are restaurants like that in Carmel Valley, because there aren’t a lot of singles in Carmel Valley. At least that I’m aware of. If you believe what you see in the school directories, the divorced fathers always end up living somewhere else . . .
The “cougar night” could be a reference to the local school nearby.
Or something like this – back in 2009, apparently there was a Miss Del Mar Cougar . . .

ParticipantRed Robin’s service went down like a stone. I couldn’t understand it. My kids liked the food there so we kept going for a while hoping that things would improve. . . . but they didn’t. I’ve heard sort of equivocal things about Casa Sol y Mar – maybe the location is cursed.
Speaking of location, does anyone know what is going on the with land just south on El Camino from that mall? It looks like a run down (but inhabited) shack back in the woods on a multi-acre parcel of land. I’ve got to believe it would be worth a lot.
