ParticipantI think alcoholism is as common as DUI’s and not really talked about much. I’m leaning toward walterwhite as far as consumption may have side benefits(in moderation), surprised he has not gotten more heat for this view. It would be interesting to see if Mormon’s or other non alcohol drinkers live longer or have better health in general. I had 2 hard core alcoholic uncles who eventually both died before they were 50. Now I have a half brother who is afflicted. I too have a hard time calling it a disease when it is based on what people voluntarily put into their bodies. I’m sure it does alter metabolic pathways and there are cravings, but it does come down to choice. When I was in the Marine Corps I decided to get drunk one night, so I sat down with 2 pitchers and drank them both, walked back to the barracks, barely, but had not accomplished my goal to drink to the point of passing out. Now when I was in the Corps I did come across a few alcoholics but thankfully I didn’t receive that gene I guess. I will have a couple of beers occasionally and then get tired and quit. Most alcoholic that I’ve know will actually get energized by alcohol, which is a depressant, I guess their bodies are better at burning the alcohol than mine.

ParticipantOK here’s an idea. Find an abandoned/collapsed mine in a third world country. Make a deal with US, France, Japan, or other nuclear capable country to get rid of their nuclear waste. Get a cement truck, should be plenty of these around for cheap since building has taken a nose dive. Mix radioactive garbage with cement pour down hole in mine, laugh all the way to the bank and feel good that you have kept radiocative stuff out of the food chain. If only Japan had done this then reactor 4 would not be such a threat.

ParticipantYes I noticed the same thing last week @ a wing stop. People would walk up to the door even put their hand on the knob then just as suddenly when noticing no one was inside walk away to a busy subway next door. But have you ever tried the food @ one of these unbusy places? Well if you did then you would know why they are not busy. When people find good food they will talk about it later and that will drive business to that business. Word of mouth is still the best advertising out there in my opinion.

ParticipantHere’s a great idea from a guy that doesn’t even own a smart phone. Setup a website that brings together creative types, like me, who have really good ideas for apps with geek types that know how to write apps(maybe in their spare time,if they have any, that might be the hard part). Anyway on this website you have people suggesting app ideas then people vote how much they would pay for such an app, if the app idea gets good # of votes then the geeks go about writing it. For instance I am in a 401K plan that has a dozen or so funds with 50 or 60 companies in them. Now not wanting to look @ a long list of 500 to 600 companies that are weighted differently as far as funding I would like an app where I select the available funds that my particular 401K offers and then in a different group I pick my favorite companies and the program tells me which portfolios best suite my investment interests. Instead of picking individual stocks I could just say I want to invest in the energy sector or the green companies. Now of course the way to make money is to have people coming to this free site so of course there would have to be advertising on it. Seems like a win-win-win idea to me.
Or help people start LLC’s that can buy their own houses back for them after foreclosure @ the true market price, or help them buy a house to live in before they get kicked out of their current house before their credit is trashed. All kinds of problems out there to solve.moneymaker
