Think Grampa Simpson. “I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I’m with isn’t it, and what’s it seems weird and scary to me, and it’ll happen to you, too.”
That’s scaredy in a nutshell.
OK that explains it! Thanks for putting it in terms I can understand. So basically scaredy is an old crotchety wrinkly old man who is approaching senility.
millennialParticipant
they seem to reject the idea of “gender”, and believe it is fluid, for starters.
?? Excuse me? Gender like male and female? fluid…what?millennialParticipant
Valid points, but regardless of who or what created the society we are now experiencing, here we are. It’s true that most of us Boomers took advantage of everything that was available to us to create the lives we wanted, but that was just a case of being born in the right place at the right time, with tremendous opportunities, and imo, any generation, whatever they were named, would have done the same, had they been born in that time period. Could things have been done differently?–most likely, but hindsight is always 20/20.
Bottom line is that playing the blame game isn’t going to change anyone’s life, and I hope Millennials and others, if they not happy with their lives, will be highly motivated to change what they don’t like, so they can live the lives they want to live.
Flyer,
I believe we have. We continue to stress work/life balance so we can spend more time with people we care about (in contrast to letting our kids roam the streets), we care about our planet (because it will not last forever), and we believe in urbanization (because we hate long commutes).
millennialParticipant
im very suspicious of youngsters. they believe strange things.
Like what? I don’t remember us drinking poisonous punch, taking massive amounts of LSD and living in communes. Your answers are always obtuse and fail to explain much of anything. Please expand.
millennialParticipant
I feel like my nieces and young relatives are smarter than I was at their age. They know many more things and they hold better values. They are nicer and kinder.
I disagree with the author’s equivalence of Trump to obama and Clinton.
Obama is pretty forward thinking on climate change, nuclear weapons, gay marriage, life in a globalized world. He proposed a bill to modernize our infrastructure and develop public transport that will change our urban environment. He’s protected the environment like marine national monument in Hawaii. All things that millenials support.Hillary is slower to embrace change because she’s afraid of Republican backlash. It took her a long time to endorse gay marriage and that’s hurt her with millenials.
Baby boomers are getting old and falling behind. They are kind of needy people and want to be loved. So millenials have more power and sway than they know because they can withhold the love and repect the older generations want.
FIH,
Obviously I agree with your viewpoints on millenials, I too find this to be true. Regarding boomers I’m really confused why you feel that they are needy people and want to be loved. It seems that Trump is the extreme opposite. He’s repugnant and feeds off hate.
millennialParticipant
still, if i could save 5 or 10k in taxes, maybe…
you’re a whore, but I’m sure most people would. I would probably do it for 1k. I voted for George W. Bush to get lower prices at the pump, Al Gore cause he invented the internet, and Obama cause he was gonna change something. 1k would be an even more appealing reason.
millennialParticipant
mmm. i think even a landslide gives him 40 percent of all of us…and his higher numbers previously still point to major discontent. how can they be so unhappy in our greatest of all time society?
unless maybe …its not…
ok if you have brown shit and green shit and the brown shit gets 40% of the vote…does it matter? they both still smell like shit. just cause you pick the brown shit does it mean you’re not happy? It’s hard for me to synthesize that brown shit means discontent while green shit means status quo. In fact, I could argue that everyone always has something to bitch about, and the fact that it’s closer to even signifies that we are a better nation…a more balanced democracy.
millennialParticipant
and yet, there is the pesky problem that nearly half the country supports trump, which indicates to me that they are pissed off, unhappy and think their lives, their deal, their society sucks.
I don’t think nearly half the country. In fact, I think it’s going to be a landslide victory for Hillary. It sucks that our options are Trump or Hillary, if George Clooney/Jeter ran for president Trump would be resigning by now.
millennialParticipant
i think yourr right on there. its not the act. its understood its nature. its something to do with marriage. or maybe its the sheer reliance on wealth, with no physical attractiveness, that makes it feel so ugly.
being one of 1000 women who slept with clooney sounds like a good story to tell. being one of 1000 women who slept with trump feels gross, and maybe like you should sue him.
It’s because he’s personified to be a real douche bag and known to take advantage of others misfortunes. If you slept with him, it’s probably because he took advantage of your drunken state. Meanwhile, Clooney and Jeter are personified to be classy gentleman. They are not known to cheat on their wives and girlfriends and Jeter at least leaves a signed baseball and flowers on the nightstand.
millennialParticipant
look, i love the usa, i love the society i live in, and frankly to me it seems like the best the world has ever bern.
and yet the skeptic in me assumes im a moron and wrong about everything, or at least misguided…and prone to think i know something when i know nothing…
You may be a moron, but the world today is the best it has ever been. No other point in time have we been able to communicate our thoughts and opinions to so many people, where we can affect change from our own living room, and where we are truly masters of our own lives.
millennialParticipant
right. but im talking about consensual acts. surely trump having sex with thousands of aspiring women doesnt endanger your family?
I don’t think I ever said I have a problem with famous people having sex; in fact I think it’s their life so let them do whatever they want. I do however think that if you are in a relationship it’s important to honor it. Also regarding Tiger Woods, as an avid fan of golf I could care less about what he does off the course, but of course I understand when public opinion forces companies to drop him as a sponsor.
millennialParticipant
it sounds like its not the act itself, but the hypocrosy that is troubling u
Personally I could care less, but public opinion would probably deem hypocrisy and cheating on your wife less desirable traits in a human and president. The public doesn’t hate Derek Jeter or George Clooney for sleeping around with numerous women…but they did hate Tiger Woods for quite some time.
millennialParticipant
one a week sex partner change would be ok though? once a month? is it just the multiple dailies thats a problem? given our sexually licentious society, that seems to be splitting hairs. once a day, once a month…no real moral difference.
really…our particular flavor of morality fights disease and led to all our current advances?
much of our current technology is built on the past where morality was quite different.
Our mores are what binds us as a civilization. It’s what allows us to step in at the top of Maslow’s hierarchy instead of having to spend our time at the bottom worried about survival and whether or not someone is going to rape your wife or take out your kids on the way to school.
millennialParticipant
stealing and hitting are nonconsensual. assume consent with all of the rich powerful guys partners..like say for instance loads of women will fuck trump just to get close to power, and he only grabs the pussies of those powerseekers. why is that morally wrong of him to do?is ot “unnatural”?
It would go against popular mores for him to be married and sleeping around with many different partners; meanwhile grandstanding the fact that Bill Clinton was a cheater.
