Participant

I’d much rather see a government sponsored education/information campaign rather than banning anything. I think if more people were aware of how much more sugars are being put into processed foods, then most will cut back. This is the best of both worlds to me. Less overweight people, yet preserving freedom of choice.
You’re assuming fat people don’t already know the processed and fast food they consume are fattening and are making fat. I think they know and they’re still doing it. All this ban does is make those store richer. My prediction is people will just buy two smaller size, while costs more than one big one.
Live and let live then. My point is that as long as people are informed as to the consequences, they should be allowed to make their own decisions.
However, this kind of thinking throws a big fat monkey wrench into Obamacare.

ParticipantMy asian Girlfriend turned me on to them. We have a small tree of the “Golden Nugget” variety, and it gave us about a dozen this year. I made the mistake of biting into one too early, and it was one of the most sour things I have ever eaten. There damn good though if you’re patient enough.

ParticipantI want something that will be able to shred a bank or credit card statement without having to take it out of the envelope.
We got this guy:
and it crapped out on us. Admittedly we were behind on our shredding and had to play catch up when we bought it.
The specs on that one seemed fine. I was just disappointed in how long it lasted.

ParticipantSomething really annoying to me is UCSD’s plans to simply stop admitting resident students in favor of non residents who will have to pay more tuition. Meanwhile still taking and wasting your tax dollars. I know there is waste at UCSD because I work alongside one employee who literally does NOTHING all day everyday, and I know there are several others who do very little.

7. Make the assembly part time and drastically reduce their per diem and benefits/salaries

I think this deserves a lot of consideration. Let’s stop paying these d*bags a year long salary to dream up new ways of spending other people’s money. In Texas they only meet for 140 days every OTHER year.

ParticipantAgreed. My position is “Who the hell is the govt to tell me who I can or can’t marry?”

Maybe this is an argument for flattening the tax base…

And where will the shortfall in revenue come from?
I think that we should cut expenses before we cut revenue.
Too bad that the post office is not fully closing the 3000+ rural post offices they planned to. But the new plan of partial hours is better than nothing.
It if makes it less convenient for the rural voters to vote by mail, then tough luck. As far as I know, convenience is not written in the Constitution.

It about the freedom that job creaters have to operate based on profits.
Uh, Brian, is that you, or did someone steal your handle? You’re advocating market forces and profitability as being a determining factor in decision making? You know where all this might lead, don’t you?
I think it’s more about strategically cutting off and disenfranchising the rural republican vote.

ParticipantIs it fair to say people would “earn” extra money, or just have less taken from them?

Participant
I’m not denying a I said the quote above. I do believe that the constitution unambiguously gives the federal government the power tell people what they can and cannot buy. There is freedom of speech and religion, etc. but there is no freedom to “buy and sell anything you want” guaranteed by the constitution. And I’m totally ok with that because I think it does far more good than harm.
I’m pretty sure most Americans would agree with me on this one and that is why Ron Paul’s popularity will always be limited.
Anyway, I’ve spent a little too much time on this! Thanks for the chat.
Take care
You’re right in a way, but the constitution reserved that power to the states.May 4, 2012 at 2:18 PM in reply to: Ron Paul Wins Alaska and Washington State + Several State GOP Chairman Positions #742951mike92104
ParticipantI think a lot of people confuse libertarianism (belief in minimal government) with anarchism (belief in no government). There is a big difference between regulations and the micro management BS we have now.
