Participant
The issue I have with the current approach to what our government is doing is not because I’m opposed to helping people out in need. My idea of helping people that are in need is to give them the incentive to get out of their predicament.
I think Ben Franklin said it best:
I am for doing good to the poor, but…I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed…that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.

Participantflu…it’s patently obvious, after hundreds of his posts, that brian wants a nanny state and nothing you, I or anyone else brings to the table in the debate is going to change his mind.
Some people never see the bus until it has run them over…

Participant
meadandale, all the initiatives have come from Democrats so far.
Republicans have offered nothing. They keep on saying NO, NO, NO.
I’d like to see some Republican proposals for a change.
You know…you SAY that…but we both know you don’t really mean it. Just like the Democrats and Obama disregarded most of the input that the Republicans had on the health care bill.
