BTW, I believe that doing away with “tax entitlements” is the most politically viable way of closing the deficit without increasing tax rates. You can increase revenue without increasing taxes, just closing loopholes.
Sure, we can start with AFDC and EITC. Let’s make sure everyone share’s the tax burden.

Participant

haha What are the gonna do, declare war. Besides most will get to keep their jobs, they will just be under new management. The government and media have the power to let BP live or die like the old Roman empires that sticking their thumbs up or down to decide the fate of gladiator. Just wait until the endless stories of livelihoods lost. The people that tell Obama what to say know what his words do.
The simple fact is oil finds have been dwindling since the mid sixties and at this point the majors have to shrink or consolidate. BP is going to get eaten alive.
The brits can go cry into their tea and crumpets and join the tea-baggers
Riddle me this…If someone crashes into you and causes you injury to miss your work, who would you rather have, someone who has money, or someone who files for BK and says they can’t pay for the bills…I think we kinda need BP to remain solvent…Otherwise, aren’t we( U.S. taxpayers) gonna end up picking up for this cleanup?
Which was exactly my point…
And if Obama is leading the charge to push them into insolvency and we DO end up picking the tab…well, I expect he’ll be shown the door in 2012.

ParticipantI’d like to see Obama and his administration continue to ‘go off’ on BP and villify them. If their stock price continues to dive they’ll end up filing for bankruptcy. When Obama gets stuck with the cleanup bill because he’s driven BP out of business…it should get interesting.
