PD – Not everyone who opposes this war and presidents actions necessrily believe that “there is some group of super powerful dry skinned old men closeted away in a dark room chain smoking while they manipulate world”. I actually believe that the 9/11 terorists got really really lucky with a low budget attempt to provoke the US. What I think – and more and more people are coming to agree – is that taking the “war on terror” to Iraq was a mistake from the get-go. Now you, and I and our children will pay for years to come – in more ways than financially.
The book I suggested to you “Blowback” has no conspiracy theories in it at all – that is why I suggested it. Just the conclusions and obbservations of an octgenarian(sp?), well-travelled, well-educated American (ex-military). I am guessing you are a military family living in Coronado or the Cays and having come from a tour in D.C? Well, that is the same as my background – so I hope you will consider reading some on the issue. it is complex, and certainly the most important issue facing all of us today. This is why the topic continues to creep up in all sorts of web forums totally unrelated to politics… Intelligent people like you are missing out on crucial information because it isnt widely disseminated.
lostkittyParticipantPD, read the book “Blowback” by Chalmers Johnson. Interesting (written pre-9/11) and discusses our world position by a guy with strong ties to the military (Navy). Lots of discussion of our presence in Japan, how and why we are still there (not the usual Navy propaganda line). He discusses BinLaden as well – again, this was written pre 9/11.
lostkittyParticipantWell put zk. Thank you.
Slowly, as people come to their senses (and start reading more) the tide will turn. I fear it may be too late to save any decent world opinion of us in our lifetimes though.

Their situations look even more dire than San Diego’s, but maybe it is because the same staggering amount of $$ isnt inolved? Wouldnt have the same effect on the larger economy? Am I following you correctly?

Off to garden and play with my six year old before the thundestorms roll through.

The above, combined with the fact that young families cannot fit themselves into a one-bedroom “entry-level” priced condo ($400+ in a good district in San Diego) means you have the non-investment entry-level buyer sitting out too.
Then all the people like powayseller who could afford a home now, but have done their homework and see the writing on the wall – they are sitting out too. The percentage decline in demand grows and grows…..
lostkittyParticipantWill do. I got a security certificate notice when i tried to open the site last night… I havent had much chance to get on this site lately as all my flute students are preparing for the annual state evaluations by judges.
i’ll keep trying to send.
lostkittyParticipantI’ve tried this three times and I keep getting my emails returned. Is there a reason for that? I’ve checked the spelling. I really dont want to post my address here. Can I use that [email protected] address?
lostkittyParticipantIt is probably too late preserve any good opinion the rest of the world had for us. That ship has sailed.
I will definitely go check out this book at the library (no more Borders or Barnes&Noble for me – I am in a new mode of cash conservation). If they dont have it at the library – I dont read it – same for movies. Luckily our libraries are amazing here in NY. All the “new release” movies are always sitting right there on the shelf for free.
lostkittyParticipantI sent mine to him now too! Talk to you soon. : )
lostkittyParticipantI’m back! Been busy – end of school year mayhem.
PSeller – How do you send your address to Rich? Is there a link on here somewhere I am have not had time to find???
Anyhow, had to chime in here and reiterate that my family is one such as you mention. We make a very good living, but giving it all to a house was not what we wanted. Living in upstate NY has changed everything for us. I do miss those beaches – but for a few thousand, we spend our entire summer in San Diego with family.
Literally 95% of my friends that stayed in San Diego had their parents pay for all or most of their home. Either outright, or by giving them a significant downpayment amount to make the payment affordable given their income (which is really not much for average 30 somethings)…
OT – My littlest son has discovered the magical world of underarm farts (taught by his best friend). I told him it was rude and he asked if it was okay if he does them in his bedroom with the door closed. I said sure. Now as I am trying to type, all I can hear is hysterical laughter and the occasional “OH, escuuse me! I couldnt contwol that!” more laughing… and “Pardon me! Dat was a gwoss one!” laugh laugh laugh… It is the little things in life….glad I am home to hear it because if we had moved back to San Diego – I wouldnt be – I’d be working to pay for the nieghborhood/schools we desire.
lostkittyParticipantI’ll just never get my head around this. My good friend just sold her house in Orange Co for 740K. Bought it a year ago for 640k. The previous owner paid 280k for it in mid ’01! it is an entry-level family home. No backyard to speak of. Way out east of anything interesting – hot as hell. 740k. She had given up on selling it and was going to just take her husband’s business buyout (the company is moving to TN). GO FIGURE!!!!
lostkittyParticipantLove to! We will be staying in Solana Beach/DelMar this summer though. The water in Coronado was absolutely NASTY last year. They had the same red tide in North County, but it did not last as long, nor did it have the same aroma….. better waves up north too. I am determined to catch a decent wave one of these days and my brothers are great teachers.
I never remember anything so awful as that red tide as a child growing up in San Diego, and I was at the beach constantly for 25 years or so.
lostkittyParticipantIt always goes back to the “pyramid scheme” scenario… There is no one coming in at the bottom, so the whole thing falls to the ground.
