Participant300K for SFR would seem about average or little above that; i know my neighbors in carmel valley spent about 70K(DIY)-250K, with an average of ~l00K or so. But then that include price of a pool, which adds at least ~50K.

Participantdjrobsd, couldn’t agree with you more. Money is only a part of the equation in a good life.

Participantbad things about Carmel Valley besides $$$:
– no shopping nearby (Malls, Target store, etc)
– no good & cheap eats nearby (especially Asian food)
– everything closes early
– homes, parks, & schools and not much else.
– kids racing bicycles on your streetjustbought

ParticipantI second Carmel Valley, south of 56 in Torrey Hills or Carmel Country Highlands area. Unfortunately, that area is not “Fire proof” like 4closure, I mean 4S Ranch 🙁
But school-wise it’s great: There are 3 elementary schools, including Sage Canyon, Torrey Hills, and Ocean Air. You can check them out to see how they compare to other schools.

Participanti must say, some people to abuse HOA. Everyone on my block received a letter from HOA, telling us to remove the picket sign of my landscaping company. One freaking person (obviously, one of the few without a sign) doesn’t like seeing the signs on the block and go tells the HOA. I know it’s in the HOA rules, but to be fair, my landscaper needs advertisement too.
