Not that I disagree with the article, but those charts are somewhat bunk. The first should show % change in employment, not the raw numbers. The amended chart would still be disappointing, but a bit more honest.
The second chart shows you the power of assumptions. Notice the exponential growth of the costs projected. A trend that can not continue, won’t. But that just means we need to make sure the assumptions are false, or at least actively falsify them…
jstoeszParticipantcould not agree more. Same goes for firemen.
If we did away with collective bargaining and established merit based pay, we would see this whole discussion vanish.
We don’t even need to privatize, we just need to dissolve public employee unions. I can not legally bribe/elect my boss.
Exception, bring on the vouchers! I will be damned if I send my kids to public school!

jstoeszParticipantTo me at least, it is not a moral issue. For the record I have no ulterior motive, I have never owned a home and do not need to justify walking away.
The terms of the contract are, either you perform or we take your house. You are still fulfilling the contract.
Although I suppose I do not need to convince you…

jstoeszParticipant
Edit: Another good example of privatization is private schools. But I don’t find that they are cheaper than public schools.
Public schools spend approximately 10k per pupil on average. That is pretty comparable to private schools. If anything, many private schools are cheaper. And I have a strong feeling the aggregate quality of education in private schools is much much higher.
For the record I think MANY (certainly not all) teachers are even more overpaid than firemen, but that is for another topic I suppose.
