ParticipantTo Pass Smog:
1. Stand outside the shop with a vaping device.
2. When it comes time for the rev check, start puffing large amounts of smoke.
3. Smog guy will assume the puff is from you and not the car!
4. Can’t see this missing 😉Hobie
ParticipantBlog: I see. I was just wondering about options re settlement. One idea was you could legally keep the easement, but agree to not use it for a limited time. Then hope he dies or moves and you’re set.
If privacy is his thing, would planting a wall of bushes help this? I know you already thought of this but again just getting options on table trying to keeping peace with crazy.
Still think you have to sue him to keep you ducks in order to be able to enforce on him. Kinda feels like dude won’t back down without the real possibility he will go to jail. That may get him on to an new hobby.

ParticipantNot as good as your nose, but holding a clean rag over the pipe will collect smells and maybe enough you can feel.

Participant
Actually that it might be a big deal if cel goes on because I think the smog test does a obd2 scan
But repluging in the valve and resetting should remove the code so light will be off for test.
I don’t think past codes are problems. After all it ‘was’ fixed.
Hobie
ParticipantGood idea! Might throw a code, no biggie.

ParticipantActually Brian, Flu’s car is actually not contributing to the smog problem. It’s the non-visible stuff that is bad.

ParticipantGood stuff from Gzz.
Gzz: I know the best option is to have atty run the case but Blog seems to have lots of evidence to support is claim of interference with the easement. Do you think he could be successful pro per? I guessing neighbor doesn’t have many defenses.
Blog: If you have other access to your property, why did you purchase easement? Easier access? I do understand you purchased it before neighbor moved in but selling it to neighbor is one of the settlement options. Regarding settlement, the value is what you determine, not what you paid.
Question: If you are not using the easement currently, why is neighbor hassling you? Or do the other neighbors still use the road and you are just his favorite one to pick on? Does he want that piece to build something on? Paddock, etc.
Not saying to roll over but just getting more info to help form strategy.

ParticipantSince we are armchair mechanics 🙂 here is a different theory:
I listened again to the video and heard a small popping upon decel. Do you have headers?
If you are not having a significant drop in water level, and oil level is not dropping either then that popping may be afterfire.
Afterfire is not backfiring but unburnt fuel in the exhaust. Then I remembered you have a performance chip in it. Could that be causing it to run rich? Or at least delay in the injectors cutoff??
The kicker is that it is not consistent. Seems to have larger plume at first ( idling longer ) then less. hmm. ( Pass compression test then turbo seal is my bet)
There are some guys that feel the synthetic oils due to their more slipperiness can get past seals causing leaks. More of a long shot here as your car probably speced a certain oil due to the turbo anyway.

ParticipantFailing turbo seal. Leaking internally.
If it was coolant you would notice loss in radiator level. If it was steam, you would see water around the pipe. Plus, condinsation is short lived as exhaust heats up fast and this video is after a freeway run. So no steam.
Compression test would be next. Can you have someone else hit the gas and you sniff the puff? May be able to smell coolant vs. oil.
And I would hope a different smog guy might have forgetton his glasses would be good.
Hobie
ParticipantMore I think about this, doubt coolent leak, or head gasket fail.
I’m thinking turbo oil leak. Turbo get hot enough to burn off oil after 1/2 hour running. High rev more oil pressure/flow past seal.
Hobie
ParticipantI’m not familier with your engine so this is a guess. Are you sure there coolent to the turbo? Maybe it is upstream that is leaking and since turbo is down low is could be pooling and burning off creating smoke. But again, turbo gets hot pretty quick and I would guess that vaporizes fairly quickly.
Plus, you probably would notice more coolent loss than a drip or two. hmm
Ya know…..
Suppose you had a leaking valve guide or turbo oil line and it dripped oil down and ended up in the turbo when engine off. Since the oil wasn’t burned the the cyldender it would heat up in the turbo and make whitish smoke just as mentioned an external oil leak onto a hot manifold, but this would still be internal and come out the pipe!
Unless it is a huge leak, after it burns it off it should run clean. And your coolent drip is a small external drip. Nothing more.
Bet new smog guy is all you need. Fingers crossed.
Hobie
ParticipantSmall nuance here. Oil leak onto hot exhaust will produce a ‘white’ smoke with a slight blue tinge. But that is easy to smell and track down looking at the engine. But, if it coming directly through the exhaust pipe and is white. That is coolant.
