Participant
It sounds like insurance will not cover the burning down of the house. And it sounds like there’s a significant risk that neighboring houses could go up in flames as well.
I’m wondering what recourse the landlord would have in this case. Is his only course of action to pursue a (probably futile) civil suit against the tenant?
Assuming that the landlord acted reasonably and had no reasonable suspicions about his renter, I’m not sure how he could have protected himself. And what about the neighbors, if the fire spreads?

ParticipantSome foreign language guide that I had suggested starting questions with “please.” The logic being: even though you have limited facility with the language and you’re probably mangling the grammar, “Please, where is the bus station?” is going to sound better than “Where is the bus station?”

ParticipantI am self-employed, insured by Pacificare, offered through Costco although I received a notice awhile back that no new policies will be issued through Costco. Existing policies would still be honored. For the time being anyway.
My premium went up 34% this year, the largest YoY increase I’ve experienced.
With respect to the health care bill, I was in favor of having either a public option or health-care coops. Was greatly disappointed when these were eliminated.
I would have liked to have seen an experiment where health insurance followed the Auto Club model – a private corporation whose only shareholders were the insureds.

ParticipantHahahaha, I guess I see how my wording might have left that impression, but actually I don’t partake.
What I meant to say was, it seems that reading through the current crop of ballot initiatives, the arguments for and against, and the stated affiliations of the people making those arguments, nothing really leaps out at me. It looks like the same old crap and I can’t get excited about any of it.
