ParticipantIt’s been years since I checked in and had to laugh that this was still going on.

Participant
AirBNB is liberal with covering refunds to unhappy guests.
yes, out of the host’s pocket. If a guest is granted a refund, it does not come from Airbnb. And getting Airbnb to reimburse a host for damages is a rarity. There’s a reason it makes the news when it happens.
All that aside, am I really to believe that a business with 14+ % gross margins, pays out more than that 14% in claims of host damages? That makes no sense.

ParticipantThe one I don’t understand is Airbnb. How can they possibly still be losing money? Unlike Uber, they’ve never subsided the product.
The host sets pricing. Airbnb charges guests appx 14% on top of that. The host pays 3% for credit card processing, so Airbnb even makes a couple bucks there. And for that, they maintain a website and have a bunch of (but not nearly enough) customer service reps, mostly offshore.
They’re basically running a hotel, except with none of the overhead & maintenance and probably higher gross margins. Where the hell is all the money going?

Participant
it would limit him to only one more term of Presidential office beyond the short few day term impeachment would give him.
That part isn’t correct. You cannot be *elected* to the Presidency more than twice, or serve more than 10 years if you ascend due to a vacancy. So if the 25th were invoked, he could serve out the remaining ~10 days of this term, plus run for two full terms.
I don’t know what his future ambitions are (hopefully none), but in his calculus he probably figures he’s rocked the boat enough already and just run the clock out.

You’re forgetting about GWB and his pal Pooty-Poot, “I looked into his eyes and saw his soul,” etc.

ParticipantHistorically, the reasons for having lots of kids were 1) you need more hands to work the farm, and 2) most of those kids won’t live to adulthood.
Thanks to urbanization and modern medicine, those two things are no longer true in the developed wolrd and much of the developing world. Still, we’ve far exceeded the carrying capacity of our planet, yet we have a world economy utterly dependent on consumption and expansion.

ParticipantMe neither. This actually made me like the guy!

ParticipantHeard the soundtrack when it came out. Gave it 10 minutes and I was done. Zero desire to watch it. I hate rap and hip hop. Not my thing.

ParticipantYes, I always turn to the Epoch Times for my well-reasoned and researched news.

ParticipantHuh. Looks like Payboo is B&H specific. I guess they figure they can save the 2-3% that regular credit card processors charge, and they’ll make up the difference off whatever percentage of customers ends up paying 30% interest.
B&H may discover what the auto makers found out: there’s more money to be made financing cars than there is manufacturing them.

ParticipantI first found out about this board from the Yahoo QCOM stock chat list. So it had to have been pre-2005 that I started reading and it looks like I finally got an account about 11 years ago.
Anyway, I learned a lot, and thanks Rich for putting up with all the shenanigans all these years.

ParticipantToo scared to short and put options don’t look all that attractively priced, so I’ll sit this one out.
