ParticipantSee my post on ‘interesting’ thread. Honestly, I’m not that impressed with cabinet nominations, esp. Daschle and the tax-cheat Geithner. There were even problems with that Richardson guy, and he seemed like he was pretty capable. But I don’t know that I care that much at this point. What’s the moral? Nobody in D.C. is clean? It’s pathetic.
However, what stands out to me more right now is the degree of outrage being generated on the right. The amplitude is just fake. It’s having it’s intended effect though, which is to influence the press negatively, which undermines a new President, which hurts our ability to cope with some MAJOR problems. We’re facing unprecedented problems right now, we don’t need to be piling on — it’s not helpful.
Just some background, I used to be GOP. I can’t stand them anymore. They sold us out. I’m not an Obama-maniac. Libertarian and anti-repuglican. I like Ron Paul. It’s a measure of our times when fringers like Kucinich and Ron Paul sound sane (half the time). And Ron Paul has been on the spot with Greenspan and this banking crisis right from the start. Ron Paul should get a medal.
Look, I’ll be the first to admit if Obama’s a big failure. I don’t want him to be though. The magnitude of the shit we’re facing is enormous, and the GOP should leave it alone right now, pitch in to try and make things work.

ParticipantHey AFF, hope you’re doing well. Here’s my answer: I don’t know that I have any very meaningful impressions of the Obama admin so far. Certainly one of the most incredibly challenging transitions in our nation’s history.
They bungled a couple of the nominations, Geithner and Daschle in particular. Geithner, while he may be the ‘man’ in Treasury, he’s also a tax cheat and shouldn’t be in charge of the division that oversees the freaking IRS. That’s just crap. And Daschle? Well, I never liked him that much anyway. Couldn’t even tell you why.
Overall, I’m more *struck* by my impressions of the GOP opposition. What a bunch of crying, whining, bitching, pansy-ass losers. From Rush Limbaugh saying he hopes the Obama admin fails (that fat-fuck, drug-addict piece of shit), to John ‘crybaby’ Boehner and Eric ‘sensitive’ Cantor, to DICK Cheney suggesting another terrorist attack is the fault of the Obama administration because they don’t want to keep America safe…
(I’m all for free speech but there are consequences to what you say, especially in politics. If I were Obama and Cheney said this two weeks into my term, I would immediately pursue an investigation into war crimes against key Bush officials. The gloves come off. At this point, we all know the facts. They are guilty of EXTREMELY SERIOUS CRIMES. The only thing standing between them and a firing line is Obama’s determination to set a more bi-partisan course.)
We’ve got major problems and a bi-partisan course is required. So far, it seems as though the Obama administration and democratic majority has been pretty fair with the republican side, concessions on various bills and so forth. I’d also say, give these GOP bums 3 more months and if they don’t change their approach, nail them to the fucking wall. A LARGE MAJORITY of voters made a decision last fall but these ass-clowns on the right don’t seem to have gotten the memo.
That’s my unvarnished take.

ParticipantThose are good comments, threadkiller.
Yeah, I’m not very pleased about the bailout either but it’s not the bogeyman people are making it out to be.
We’ve got very serious economic imbalances and structural finance problems. I think they’re essentially trying to monetize the debt hanging over us, and to the extent that the world is willing to accomodate that, they might be successful. Net effects are going to be very painful for lots of average Americans regardless.
There should be *many* people in jail at this point. And no more obscene bonuses, private jets and ‘CEO-perks’ using taxpayer dollars.
