Participant
The OT section is not there to encourage OT postings. It is there to get them out of the way.
I don’t mind the occasional OT posting by various people here and there. We have become a community and we are familiar with each other and it makes sense that we want to share OT issues with each other – be it cars or guns, jokes, or the chargers, etc.
The political posts were just too much, however. As I mentioned, at one point in Oct. 12 of the 20 active forum topics were political drivel and you had the same few people posting the same types of conter-productive threads over and over.
You can go to one of a million sites to see people bicker about politics. Why add the noise here? To specifically answer your question – OT posts drown out the insightful voices of the topics of interest. They make the forum less focused and less useful.
The real value of this site is San Diego real-estate disccusions, with a bit of economics mixed in. And when Piggs focus on that, they are excellent sources of info and insight.
As long as the OT posts are amicable and don’t drown out the RE/economics posts, they aren’t a problem.
Posting too many OT is like going to a tupperware party and trying to sell used cars to the other guests. It just doesn’t make sense and it’s annoying.
NOW I get what you’re talking about SDuuuude- I owe you an apology for giving you a hard time about your complaints about OT threads. It’s not the OT threads themselves, it’s the fact that every topic, whatever it is, ends up turning into some lame political argument that rehashes the same things over and over.

Participant
The earliest you can see the embryo with ultrasound is about 4.5 weeks past the last menstrual period, or about 2.5 weeks after conception. A surgical abortion can be performed any time after the embryo can be visualized. Visualization inside the uterus is essential to prevent the attempt to abort an ectopic pregnancy.
Prior to 9 weeks after LMP you need to know exactly what to look for to find the embryo in the pathology tray. After 9 weeks it starts to look like a baby in there.
Abortion is obtainable in CA up to 24 weeks, unless a lethal anomaly is discovered later in pregnancy.
I voted against the prop, as I believe it will lead to increases in back alley illegal abortions, especially in this age group. Abortion MUST remain legal, even though I personally feel that you lose a little piece of you soul after you perform each one.
Thanks for the info Navydoc. As I said it was always my understanding that abortions could be performed while the fetus was just a ball of cells. Any idea how long the abortion pill can be used before surgical abortion is needed and what year it came out?
*I love the busses to planned parenthood idea. That would be much safer. But they should have carseats just to make sure.

ParticipantYikes. That’s a tough one. IMO it depends on how much you like the house and area and whether or not you can afford to wait the down turn out. The most recent down turns have been about 5 years long, but the situation that we’re in right now is unprecedented so it’s hard to tell how long this one will last (with govnt.intervention, etc). Here’s a graph that shows the peaks and valleys of RE over the years and may give an indication on how long this downturn will go.

Participant

OK I give up. While we’re on the subject of abortion, here’s something I never knew before. It was always my impression that most abortions were performed while the embryo was just a ball of cells. Actually, you can’t get an abortion until you are about two months into a pregnancy so that they can see what they’re looking for before they remove it. Anyone here who has kids and has seen ultrasounds, knows how well developed a fetus is at two months. Pretty sad.
R: Clinics and doctors vary on how soon you can get a first-trimester surgical abortion – usually it’s 6 weeks after your last menstrual period
I was talking about surgical abortions. I drove a friend to planned parenthood about 15 years ago to have an abortion (before I had my own kids and became more sensitive to the issue). The doctors made her wait until she was 8 weeks pregnant before they would do it. I’m not sure if they had the abortion pill at that time.
