ParticipantI have one of those bed toppers that you put on a cheaper regular mattress and it works great. You can get them at Target for about $100.

ParticipantI wouldn’t buy anywhere where I haven’t rented in the same town for at least 6 months first. I know the temptation is great to buy and settle quickly in a new city, but it’s a big mistake IMO.
We moved to S.D. from L.A. a couple of years ago and were planning on buying a house right away. I am so glad we waited. Not only will we be able to buy a way better house than we originally could have because of declining prices, but we now know that we’ll never buy in the area that we were originally looking to buy. Now that we live here we’ve seen much better places that we’d like to live.

CA voters are idiots. They want everything and don’t want to pay for it. The ballot measures that passed last election are proof of that.[/quote]
I agree with Mr. Furley, I gave up on California voters after Arnold’s ballot initiatives failed so miserably a few years ago. If the people of this state are that stupid, however unfortunate it is for me, they get what they deserve.

ParticipantI have no problem paying taxes for programs that actually work and are run properly, but how often is that the case with the public sector? One of the best examples is our public schools. No matter how much money we dump into them, the test scores just go further and further down.
The reason for this is because the majority of families who send their kids to public schools don’t value education. If they did, they’d make sure their kids could read and do math.
I’ll tell you a public program that I’d support whole heartedly and that is cutting the amount of school administrators in half and putting that money towards trade programs (plumbing, mechanics, electricians, computer skills).
Unfortunately this will never happen. The teachers’ union thrives on poor test scores. That way they can blame it on a lack of funding and collect more and more money each year.
SD realtor is completely right about the fact that the unions have a complete stranglehold on California. It’s very sad and frustrating.
