Participant… index … “reaches new low”
So, I thought to myself, I wonder what this index was back in 2005. I was guessing that agents were pretty optimistic then, and that this index might be a useful contrary indicator … Turns out the index has been around for 16 months. So, I guess the bar for reaching a “new low” is pretty low.
In other news, I created an index called the number of days in 2010. It just hit an all time high today.

ParticipantThe only way to address this is to understand whether the medical bills are temporary or likely to be on-going ?
If it is likely to be on-going, then they are going to go bankrupt anyway. They probably should have considered bankruptcy before draining their pensions.
Their best bet is to negotiate scheduled payments with the hospitals/providers for their debt. They can probably get some of it written down and effectively get a zero interest rate loan by requesting to make payments.

One note about a pet peeve I have…”need” is such an overused word. I need air. I do not need medical insurance, or a free bus pass. Those are things I steal…
That’s the difference between you and me.
When someone is sick that person needs medical insurance.
When a person must get to work to a job that doesn’t pay much and is located where real estate is expensive, that person does need a bus pass.
People also need food and shelter.
The real deifferences lie in what people believe should be provided for them by the rest of the country and what people should provide for themselves and their family.

That’s very rational to vote for people who will give you stuff that you want.
Give me a RATIONAL reason why red-state working-class voters, who live in poverty, support the politicians who will withhold things that they need.
Maybe they don’t want the government to give them what they need.
