I have rented from SIXT a couple of times. Great prices. WARNING: You need to ensure you do a full walk-thru on the car noting all dents, scratches, etc, no matter how small. They keep good records and are very particular about that when you return the car.
fcepsteinParticipantI am an aerospace engineer, on the Communications Engineering side.
I recommend staying looking at Space Daily (http://www.spacedaily.com/) for latest information and industry trends. They have an automated daily email feed that you can sign up for. Lockheed in San Jose is a major player in satellites, as is Northrop Grumman in Manhattan Beach. Raytheon and Lockheed do a lot of Missile Defense. General Dynamics in Phoenix and Viasat in Carlsbad also comes to mind.
Also concur with the industry being cyclic, and it is now trending downward. The DoD is trending away from “esoteric” solutions, and moving more toward providing information to the troops at the ground level. As a result, there seems to be a pinch at the Satellite and Missile Defense sectors.

Pretty much what I have decided myself, it is still a crap shoot, but really comes down to a personal decision point. What I fear is risking savings and getting caught in an under-water loan. Did it once, don’t want to do it again.
I don’t particularly mind postings like Spam-a-lot Bill’s “it’s time to buy now” sales pitch. Being an engineer, I appreciate Rich’s thoughtful and informative articles and postings and read them avidly. I am certainly not going to be swayed by Bill trying to tell me what to think. In fact, his posting kind of tells me it’s still not time to buy, going by my instincts that he is a liar (aka salesman) trying to get my money. It is actually somewhat amusing to me.
Unfortunately, for me, it is the relentless mis-informed postings from the conservatives trying to trash Obama and the Dems that have driven me away from Pigg website. After 8 years of Bush/Cheney lies, deceit, fiscal irresponsibility, ill-begotten wars, domestic spying, fear-mongering, etc, we are in a deep hole that will take years to climb out of. I am sure none of wants bailouts, but sometimes the medicine doesn’t taste very good. After thinking long and hard about what motivates their hatred of Obama, the only thing I can come up with is racism, plain and simple.

fcepsteinParticipantbsrsharma- well, you’re exactly right. I’ll be a believer (aka buyer) again when the Yellow and Blue lines in Rich’s Monthly San Diego Home Sales Per Default graph in his June Foreclosure Activity fall back on top of each other. I happen to be one of those Engineering geeks who believes numbers DON’T lie, at least not when they are well presented.
Another telling figure I look at is Price per Sq ft. I know half the readers here might dispute that as a somewhat “vanilla” stat, but it does track to rents pretty well. I to me, rents don’t lie either. Rent is what working people are able to pay over a long period. Until mortgages re-align with rents, the market still will have to correct itself.
