Participant
Hi eclipxe,
Congrats on your new home. Did Redfin delivered as you expected??? How were you able to see homes with Redfin? To me, that is still a puzzle. And the most important thing, how was your rebates, as promised ? How is it better than the few local agents who carries similar rebates ? Thanks.
I actually worked with a close family friend – I just did the legwork finding the place with Redfin. I was actually out viewing houses when I got my daily redfin alert on my phone and was able to get to the place I purchased as soon as it was listed. If it wasn’t for the redfin alert there is a good chance I would have been too late.

Participant

I am now in the process of paint, carpet, landscaping, etc. Basically living my life at Home Depot/Lowes (I take after you tg). Prices are excellent on materials and labor.
Ha ha I hear you. We’ve been visiting Home Depot / Lowes once, sometimes twice a day since we closed escrow. I’ve somewhat foolishly started a construction project (converting an archway between the living room and the dining room into an interior partition wall). It’s harder and longer than I expected. In the mean time, my wife repainted three out of four bedrooms.
Does anyone know a good contractor to install a gate?
I wish I knew! It’s a daunting task. Taking on debt and getting the keys was easy…getting the place to sparkle and have that personal touch seems so out of reach. I tallied up everything I need to take care of now and I’ve come to the conclusion that I will single handedly rescue the economy once the house is done. I now see how tempting it was during the bubble years to tap the good old HELOC. “Free” money, infinite projects to do, houses always go UP UP UP! No brainer.

Participant

Things are as bad as we are being led to beleive however many of us extrapolate things beyond the reality. If unemployment is 10% that means employment is 90%. Sales can be down but for the guy still making the few sales that are out there they are up.
A balanced view of reality is the key.
If a balanced view of reality is key, then we need to admit that a lot of southern Ca is a 2 income household area. It is true 90% are still employeed, but it is also true that a far larger number than 90% will be effected. How many of you could maintain your standard of living without your spouses income?
I’m single, still able to buy at 3x income out here. The plan is to pay down this place aggressively and then pick up a small condo near the coast (OC or SD) with the now girlfriend, soon wife’s income. 4-5 years when the coast bottoms, good deals to be had there I believe.
