March 15, 2007 at 6:52 PM in reply to: Get fired up! Congress considering bailing out SUB PRIME! #47770drunkleParticipantthere’s been plenty of corporate bailouts/welfare programs while real welfare (and education and health care…) has been “personal responsibilitized”. the airline bail out, s&l, oil/energy, dot com…
not enough regulation, not enough trust busting, union busting, fudging real unemployment numbers…
we end up with what we have now. stagnant wages, record corporate profits, insecurity in the labor force, diminishing middle class…
drunkleParticipanti like the tag line there, “We make our clients wealthy”. sounds more like “We make ourselves wealthy”.
drunkleParticipantthe main thing is the price, home prices today are grossly inflated. ultimately, home ownership is still the primary means of wealth generation for normal people because once you’re done paying for it, you not only save money, you have a valuable asset.
the attitude of disposable goods is the problem, where even homes are treated as temporary and disposable. it’s an attitude rooted in marketing and consumerism, people don’t drive their older, paid off cars because media tells them they’re losers if they do.
then again, the loss of jobs and economic failure of a region can kill your home investment.

oh yeah, he knows. it’s a give away to the rich.
drunkleParticipantre: 401k
i had just reviewed mine the other day and none of the available funds, not even a money market was free of mbs’. 401k’s are ridiculous, fraudulent tools of investment bankers used to guarantee influx of money. and with today’s savings rate, static income and lower population, i wonder what will happen once the baby boomers start drawing their 401’s down. reminds me of a pyramid scam.re: center for responsible lending, sen dodd’s proposal
the crl seems to be affiliated to the major banking institutions. where were they when sub prime mortgages and arms were exploding and making the banks massive profits? ‘liberal’ my ass.drunkleParticipantthe hubris demonstrated by some is amusing but ultimately pathetic.
the linked article does nothing to explain what is being proposed. being blinded by hubris, these “conservatives”… no, strike that, they’re not even conservatives, these douchebags don’t even bother to ask. if they thought about it, they’d think, “hey, these taxpayer funded grants would actually help my corporate bank buddies…” and they would not raise such a stink. but being the idiot douchebags they are, they just chant “liberals suck liberals suck”.
you would wonder what these chimps would do with their free time if it weren’t for the government built internet on which they currently drool.
drunkleParticipantalot of work can be done in water reclamation before desal becomes an issue. reclamation requires energy to clean/filter (already being done to a degree) and pump water, but it’s less than that required to desal and also pump.
drunkleParticipant“Of the remaining 21,300 members, how many are actually active in sales? ”
perhaps it’s like the gov’s assessment of “employment”: those that are neither employed or on unemployment are non participants. ie., they don’t get counted in median wage estimation, employment/unemployment figures, etc…
so, your “inactive members”, those that failed to make a sale and earn a commission really dont exist and shouldn’t be counted… regardless of their “hard” work.
well, they were just housewives working 9 mo out of the year and from home at that…
drunkleParticipantif memory serves, the majority of water use in cali is farm related. not population related. chalk up the ut article to farm lobby misinformation.
drunkleParticipantyou *have* to know that there’s a bubble going on when homes out in the boonies, tract homes at that, homes that stick you in 1+ hour rush hour traffic are selling for that much.
or maybe too many angelenos moved south and bought thinking that that was normal.

What is interesting is that taking Gores cost and dividing by kWh served, you get very very close to a non-green rate charge!
your numbers of 1200/15917 = $0.0759good catch. the corrected result is way off. which brings this:
“Kreider said Gore purchases enough energy from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and methane gas to balance 100 percent of his electricity costs.”
into question. what does it actually mean?
