there used to be a ceiling on asian undergrads at ucla. ie., a max quota.
if alternative methods of arithimetic were taught, but the “show your work” requirement were still there, would it make a difference? of course. the short cuts are not being taught in the context, that’s all. but if you remember the rules regarding fractions, percents and decimals, you know that you can do the arithmetic manipulations. it’s applying those manipulations in order to create shortcuts that is not pointed out. ie., application and logic.
it’s surprising to see the percentage black population is so relatively low. i guess the crack/aids epidemics did their jobs.

drunkleParticipanti’d love to hear about markets all over; alaska, hawaii, michigan, co, az, nm…
if the information became so prolific and widespread, if more people were reporting on it and more people were reading about it…

drunkleParticipantit’s funny when the term ‘starter home’ is attached to some 400k 2/1 ghetto turd…
since you want to ‘get out of the starter home category’, i’m assuming the intended effect worked. that is, to motivate you to want to buy more house than you need.

no, that’s going too far and too fast. we have a social contract, to specialize our skills in order to live in an industrialized nation. we are no longer a nation of self supporting individuals. losing a job, losing your skills due to technology or innovation must have a guarantee that you will still be provided for. otherwise, the pace of technological advancement will insure a nation of unemployed or underemployed dissidents. that does not help the stability of the country.
capitalism *must* be tempered with socialism. otherwise, if you want pure capitalism… go to tj. there’s your rampant capitalism, there’s your cutthroat society. if you lose sympathy, desire for a middle class, you lose everything.
edit: oh, how could i miss the easy one, the gimme… this housing bubble that we are all watching with anticipation… guess what? free market, baby, and it’s going to burn!

I’m so tired of hearing that we need illegals to pick strawberries. You know what, I like strawberries but they are already overpriced as hell. Why not import them from Mexico for crying out loud? It would be much cheaper and the illegals could stay in their own country and work where they are more comfortable anyway. The only ones benefitting from the current system are the wealthy owners and corporatations. Am I sounding like Lou Dobbs? Good because Lou is awesome, it’s nice to hear some common sense on the TV once in a while.
one word. NAFTA. we bought it like a bag of magic beans, but it’s not the answer we were looking for.
not to mention… protective trade tariffs and farming subsidies…

it is utterly perverse the way some recent (and even not so recent) immigrants view the civil rights movement and “the blacks”. there’s racism written all over it and if you ask, they won’t deny it. (goes both ways, of course, the outrage of some blacks over the preferential treatment of new immigrants… justifiably.)
immigrants are not einsteins. they’re just like any other folk, they are going to be selfish, short sighted and ignorant. just like the majority of “native” americans. it is incredibly depressing to know that most everyone you see, hear, know and interact with is a moron.

drunkleParticipantgiven the history of faux, i have no reason to give benefit of the doubt.
keep in mind, whether or not the guy in the expose is a criminal is not the question. it’s the motives of faux, the sincerity of faux that i question.
