ParticipantHe’s not funny at all. His rant:
1. I buy houses in low-income areas of Austin that I can rent for 500-600/mo with positive cash flow.
2. I live in a nice area of Austin where I rent, b/c only suckers would buy something so overpriced.
3. I explain what caused the housing bubble, using language that even 5th graders can understand.
4. 401k and IRAs are a ripoff even though I can’t explain this very well.
5. People are deluded thinking that Obama will fix housing and the rest of our problems.
6. I hate republicans too.
7. Etc., etc.I put #7 in there b/c I couldn’t stand him anymore and didn’t listen to the rest. He started to sound like a Rush Limbaugh wannabe. Had he stayed on topic about his investment properties, it would’ve been interesting to listen to.

I consider myself frugal and borderline cheap, but I would fix my roof or carpet! My car is 2001 and paid off, but it’s in excellent shape and well maintained. Once I had a small dent in it, and I had it fixed right away. It should run fine for another 10-15 years. (I put in less than 7000 miles a year b/c my frugality dictates that I live as close to work as possible).
I agree with Permabear… getting rich for us is a lot easier than we would think. But not if you feel like buying stuff (aka JUNK) just to keep up with the Joneses or b/c you think you “need” to have them.
