Participant
I like cake but it’s also good to have a spare Twinkie. Why not at least try to have your cake and eat it too. You might get away with it. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
And therein lies one big problem. Many men (and women – but I’m going to focus on men here) want to have their cake and eat it too. They enter into marriage because they want kids and the stability of a wife-partner. But they have no intention of being faithful. They view the whole arrangement as just being part of life – you have your wife and kids, and then you have your affairs on the side. A large proportion of men enter into marriage with the belief that this is just how men are supposed to lead their lives. I’m not saying it’s right – I’m just saying it’s prevalent. I have many married male friends that, if we were in a bar somewhere and they started trying to pick up a woman and I reminded them of their marriage… they would break up in laughter at the comment, assuming it was a joke.

Now does society expect those desires to be squashed, for men to control themselves, whether right or wrong. Yes. But as we see all too often, it is not that easy. This is not reserved to politicians. Tiger, anyone? And however many other sports figures or actors or whatever. The normal guy out there is just the same, only he’s not in the public image and you don’t read about it in the news.

ParticipantI’m with Druckenmiller on this one – don’t raise the debt ceiling. Delaying interest payments for a few days or weeks isn’t a big deal in the whole scheme of things. It’s far more important to get our fiscal house in order.

Participant
Shame on him for not keeping it in his pants.
In my view the shame isn’t that he couldn’t keep it in his pants; it’s that he couldn’t acknowledge that he couldn’t keep it in his pants. He should’ve either (1) long ago told Maria that he wanted have sex with other women (and she probably would’ve divorced him then), or (2) divorced Maria long ago so that he could have sex with other women without all of these problems. But, as we know, that wouldn’t have “looked good” for someone running for Governor… so he tried to have his cake and eat it too… and here we are. I would like to see an unmarried politician just stand up and say, “Hey, I like to run around with different women. Just like the rest of my (political) colleagues. The difference being that I’m single.” That person would never get elected, of course… that’s too much honesty for most folks to handle.
