ParticipantSeems to me that people coming in from outside the country are really not the primary issue–the issue is people who are disenfranchised, not part of the community, don’t really see a future for themselves, and who want to get back at all of those who are on the other side of that divide. Those unhappy people can really come from anywhere, including internally. As long as there are people who don’t have hope, this danger is going to continue.

ParticipantCarmel Valley schools are truly outstanding but it is definitely more of a “cookie cutter” suburban environment. We chose to sacrifice neighborhood character for excellent schools and super-short commute. Of course there are great neighbors in almost any neighborhood! But I think the previous poster is correct that you will need to compromise on one or more of your criteria.

ParticipantJfel, we have friends in Lakeside who have lived there for years and know the community very well (and love it!). PM me and I would be happy to put you in touch with them for an info exchange.

ParticipantThere’s also one at Bear Valley, not that anyone goes there but us 🙂

ParticipantWe chose not to live in Torrey Highlands and instead are north of the 56 for these very reasons. Our nearby park is just critical for our quality of life, and walkable schools are wonderful.

ParticipantWe used this attorney recently for our living trust and a couple of other documents.
Got them from a friend’s recommendation. Seemed to be legit and we now have our docs with a minimum of fuss.

ParticipantA family member of mine has turned around some serious gum disease with very focused treatment. He uses an ultrasonic toothbrush twice a day and an ultrasonic(?) water pic once a day, very thoroughly. Goes to the dentist 4x per year for deep cleaning. It has been many years since he first got the bad news, prior to that he had never taken the dentist, flossing, etc. seriously. But he got religion in this area and has avoided the very serious consequences. It can be done.

Participant+1 for unisex bathrooms! No more ridiculous lines for women, while the men zip in and out!

Participant

I think there are a few people who really do identify with a gender other than their biological one. But that is a minority, and lots of others are just going along for the ride for the fun of it. It’s kind of like that some small subset of people are truly gluten-intolerant (celiac disease) but lots of others jumped on the bandwagon because it is fashionable.
I am an extremely liberal person, but I really had to laugh at the choices on the CalTech application under gender: heterosexual, straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, queer, asexual, cisgender, intersex, transgender, transsexual, non-gender binary, gender fluid, or unsure/questioning. Wow! How’s a high-school student supposed to choose from that list?
Of course there is humor in some of this ,but I am for removing stigma for people who deal with this , even if it is just a little confusion to work through.
Now they can get on with their homework.
Excellent point.
