ParticipantI’m with AN. You also save on prop taxes with a lower price to start with.
Good point on how we spend our spare time too!

Participant“Do sports in the backyard or add a pool” and “old-world charm” – in other words, this place has never been upgraded nor has anything been picked up since the owners moved in circa 1953.
BTW, that “front porch” that the realtor lauds in the listing description looks more like a front stoop to me. Doesn’t a porch imply having room enough to set a few chairs on?
This is a definite Kraftsman with a K.

Check out the shower head “close up.”
I can’t believe the date of the last sale – two weeks ago!! A 20% haircut in two weeks is pretty darn fast.

ParticipantGet ahold of the Jerry Schad hiking book – Afoot and Afield in San Diego County. 250 hikes from Tecolote Canyon to the Laguna Mountains. Mission Trails Park in La Mesa / Santee is huge and good for both hiking and mountain biking.
There are a lot of “neighborhood canyon” coalitions that clean the inner-city canyons and host hikes – the San Diego Sierra Club website lists those. Friends of Tierrasanta Canyons is quite active and just carved out a new nature trail overlooking Admiral Baker Golf Course. Getting involved takes some effort but it is worth it.
Summer concerts in Balboa Park every Tues, Wed and Thurs, and concerts at the Organ Pavilion on Sundays…. rotating free museums on Tuesdays…

ParticipantHere’s another. Dancing cowboys on my computer screen offering me a $500K mortgage for $423 a month.
Also, that silhouetted couple doing the hustle on a rooftop…. $300K mortgage for $259 a month.
How about the mini-video of the office secretary holding her hands up to her face because she is SO EXCITED about the new loan product, and I can be too, if I just… “click here?”
“Mortgage rates hit new lows…. click your state.” Right now I have a bull’s eye offering a free credit report….

Participant1-800-CALL-TROY “for all your mortgage needs” billboards all over town. Troy looked like he was a hipster in his early 30s, the kind of guy you’d like to gamble with in Vegas but definitely NOT someone with a finance background!
Those billboards were up for about six months in early 2005 and then – poof! I think I saw Troy at Pacific Honda last week.
BTW – CalPacific Mortgage’s slogan is, “Your loan agent for life.” Honestly – who really wants a loan guy / gal hanging around that long?

ParticipantHere’s one way to look at the time frame necessary to save up a down payment. If you think to yourself, “It will take me five years and I’ll be 35 before I can buy anything!’ you can then ask yourself how old will you be in five years if you DON’T save for a down payment.
Time passes regardless – you are on the right track.

ParticipantHow about if loan officers give back some of their ill-gotten gains for putting people in lousy loans that paid higher commissions? And agents who made huge commissions when home prices were at their peak – these same agents who recommended those prices in the first place?
Homeowners that sold at the peak are not the only ones who profited during these crazy times.
