No, wait, that can’t be true…
If you believe the other threads, SD is going to become a ghosttown with all the high paying jobs fleeing north/south/east/west/under a rock.
We can’t possibly be paying the 4th highest tech salaries with all the jobs that are leaving!!! :-)
That all depends on who you ask and how they want to see the stats.
I know many people want to believe that San Diego County is an afluent utopia (especially North of the 8) but, that simply isn’t true. And, becoming even less true everyday.
I obviously don’t have any hard data to back it up but, there sure seems to be a large number of families/individuals that are just getting by. And, I’m talking about the basics, rent, food, utilities. With credit being scarce for the majority it’s only getting harder.
Those that went before us spent their futures and the futures of those of us unfortunate to have a slightly better grasp on youth than they. My son and his cohort are going to be even worse off than mine.

Don’t you put any of the blame on the banks that are not moving the NODs through the process to REOs?It’s not just the government, it’s the banks, too.
One in the same.
We the people by the people tis no more.

I’ve actually eased up on saving. Time to have a little more fun. So far, saving has been a fools game for me. The government can take a lot from me but, they can’t take my memories. I’ll deal with Alzheimer’s when the time comes. Till then party on!
If I wasn’t already married with kid, I’d tell you all to lock up your daughters (28-35 or so, cougars are fun too).

creechrrParticipantI would suspect little to no affect. SAIC has been moving jobs out of state for years. This last round is primarily the handful of bigwigs at or near the top.
Most of the worker bee jobs are going to the South/South East; Florida and Alabama. Their IT support operations moved to Florida earlier this year (March, I think). There will be some support staff left here but, not the large numbers that once were.
If the local job loss hasn’t had a major affect on housing prices yet, I doubt it will.
For those of us that would like to purchase, SAIC isn’t our problem. The government’s intervention IS.
1. Foreclosure moratoriums
2. Fed – $8,000 tax credit to purchase
3. State – $10,000 tax credit to purchase new
4. Artificially low interest rates
5. TARP – Let’s give failing enterprises money so that they can contiue to fail at a new level of failure.
6. Hope Now – Hey, let’s rework your mortgage on that house you can’t really afford and make you into what is essentially a life long renter.
The USS Fail Boat setting sail for a port near you.
Yes, I’m a little $&^#ing bitter.
